I love this truck but I couldn’t agree more that it’s a PITA to change the oil. It takes at least double the the time to remove the skid plates and oil filter canister. And then I make sure all the bolts are covered in anti seize. The 4.0 in my Tacoma was soooo much easier cause the filter was a non canister type that was on top of the engine. I don’t understand why Toyota did that... Still I wouldn’t trust a tech to take the same care as I do. And I have two excellent dealerships within a 40 minutes of me.

We were told 5k and then again yesterday, the guy checking us in also said every 5k and that you had tk get them in within 900 miles of the 5k or yiu default to the next 5k. But doesn’t matter, I’ll not be using the free oil changes anymore even if I win this dispute. I don’t trust this dealer in the least anymore.
And thank you for the rebate link!

I took my 4R in to have it's oil changed at 1000 miles because it has been on that oil since Feb of 2019. It was August when I took it in and thought it needed to be changed. I paid the $699 for lifetime oil changes, and was told I can have it done 4 times a year no matter how early. So I took it in. I mentioned I had a tire balance issue, and wanted to do the oil and filter. They gave it back to me with only the tire fixed, but didn't do the oil, and I asked them why, they said it didn't need it till 10k. I got into a heated argument with the rep and said I paid the 699 for lifetime oil changes which include 4 a year no matter the mileage. And I said I only drive 3k miles a year, I'll never hit 10k in a year anyways. So after a bit of back and forth arguing they took it back in. Total of 3 hour wait because of them not doing it the first round. For some reason too I never receive surveys from our Toyota dealer like I do for our other vehicle from Nissan. Anyone else get surveys from Toyota with how well the service went?

I guess I’ll be finding out today how difficult these oil changes are. Not gonna be any fun with my terrible sciatica laying on a hard concrete floor.

I’ve been telling my wife she doesn’t NEED 3rd row for the few times a year we haul everyone around. She’s got her Mom’s SUV when we need the extra seat. I’d like to see her get a truck, it would be useful for our business, too. I tried to talk her into a Tundra the day she got the 4runner.
I think I’ll buy her the pedal commander and see what she thinks.

Put some drying towels folded up under you on the floor. I have sciatica and it helps with that too if you don't have a creeper.

I'm going in for my 20,000 mile service in a couple of weeks. I have bigger tires on my vehicle.

    We'll see how it goes!

I've gotten a couple Toyota surveys in the past. But I've also bought 4 vehicles from this same dealership in the last 6 years or so.

And with the Tacoma i got the oil changed early as well. I had the extended service plan but not the lifetime... They told me i can get it early just can't get double the amount... Same number of oil changes even if i want them done early. I didn't mind.

With the 4runner I'll get them early as well.. I just want to get all my "free" services before i do them myself.

Though... You really don't need them that early. I'm currently in college for automotive technology and performance... And we've tested oil at different stages... Most the time good oil last quite a bit longer than people think...

STILL... I just like knowing i got fresh oil LOL

The dealer here in service lane yells out “another freebie” when you go in for Toyota care intervals. Tire rotation with oil change takes about 2 hours, tire rotation itself is min. 1 hour. It makes you give up on even trying to bring it in because of the extreme wait and they still try to upsell wiper blades and air filter every time. On top of it all the tech makes a huge mess with oil slung everywhere. Surveys or calling corporate does not help one bit...at least where I am.

5k service oil change follow the process I guess.

Like someone else said oil is changed every 10k. If you asked for it changed at the 5K mark damn straight you should pay for it.

Got a call from corporate concerning my complaint. They called and spoke to the dealership as well they said. They informed me that not only will I get the 2 years of oil changes, this dealership will now honor the extra year the dealership we bought it from gave us. And they clarified that I get a free oil change every 5k miles. Problem resolved although, I’ll be doing it myself because that place isn’t touching shit of mine from now on. I will be going in there this week to make sure that SM eats my shit.

They did say that they cannot rotate the tires since they don’t have proper torque specs for my aftermarket wheels so, I lose that service.

10k sorry its pretty clear. You get roadside also if you didn't know. Pretty sure this won't come from the dealer so you are safe.

Think they just gave you the 5k since you called.

But I never used Toyota Care either. Not worth my time to drop it off and wait or go back. I can change the oil 10x by the time I get my 4R back.

I was told 5k when I bought it, they clarified it at that dealer yesterday when the first guy explained how it all worked and before the SM became involved, and again on the phone today. Sorry.

Me too especially since my 4R was transferred and driven from Oklahoma. I just like to start fresh myself and is the reason I wanted it done. The sticker on the windshield said it was due anyways. lol.

I've bought 5 Toyotas since Toyota Care started and all have been 10k intervals and they also handed me paperwork. Verbal never flys with me.

It's actually 5k extreme climates and driving, or 10k for light use and climates.

    https://www.toyota.com/content/ebrochure/toyotacare.pdf

    https://www.courtesytoyota.com/toyotacare-faq.htm

What Does the Toyota Care No Cost Maintenance Plan Include?
The ToyotaCare plan covers the 5K, 10K, 15K, 20K and 25K normal factory recommended maintenances, a maximum of five (5) services, for 2 years/25,000 miles from the day you purchased your vehicle (also known as the vehicle's date of first use), whichever occurs first. It also includes 24-hour roadside assistance for two (2) years from the date of first use.

I would just change the phrase "light use" to "normal use."

10k oil changes for normal use.

I know we all like to think we qualify as “extreme” users, but in reality most of us probably don't.

So another words at the end of the day the dealership wins cause you've elected not to go back. You can put whatever spin you want on it but at the end of the day their not changing it like they said they wouldn't. Hmmm I'm thinking you would "really show them" by doing the free changes like "corporate" TOLD them too.

You’re entitled to look at it however you want. The bottom line for me is the fact I can go back in there and let that SM know he was wrong and I was right. That’s a win for me any way I look at it!! I couldn’t give two shits less that I’ll lose out on a few hundred dollars in oil changes.

the oil change on my 2016 runner is 5Kmiles or 6months. tire rotations 5K miles. I never brought the runner back to dealership for this free service. reason is a floor sweeper may have done the work. many have had dealership workers break stuff... filtercaps/pan bolts/dents etc.. family member does toyota oil service and oil was dumped on the intake manifold.. oil not at the full mark. I went with my family member to dealership and they cleaned up the mess .. then gave the next oil / service work free next time.
I instructed my family members when you have them do this work YOU OPEN THE HOOD AND CHECK THAT THEY DID THE WORK AND MAKE SURE THEY PUT OIL IN IT !!!

I do my oil and tire rotations @7K miles .. I do the work.. no problems with my runner .
aftermarket wheels can be a problem .. lug nut issues. some with aftermarket wheels had to replace all the lug studs to be longer so they will have more thread to keep the nuts at proper torque .

Agreed. I always do my own work that way it’s done right. The last time we took my wife’s previous new car to a shop, it came back with deep scratches all through the door which it looked like some dumbass had keys attached to his belt loop.
I did the lift on her TRD but did have a shop do the alignment. I own about every mechanic tool a guy could ever want including cordless impacts and ratchets so it makes working on shit fun and easier. Plus I never trust shops to charge ya for full synthetic but put dyno oil in instead.

This oil debate can and will go on till the end of time. I'm not defending or dumping on dealerships I use them for some things and some things I don't. There are idiots working in every field that's life. I've simply made the decision with this 4R and my place in life I'm done doing things myself to it, I'm no mechanic but can manage an oil change....I don't want to. I have a private garage I use and their as honest as the day's long so I'm just lucky I guess. Did my free oil change a few weeks ago and everything went ok, I did mark 2 tires and they were moved from the location I brought them in (rotated.) Nope I'm not going to analyze the oil I don't think a multi-billion dollar company uses non synthetic where it supposed to be synthetic that's just crazy.....Just my .02

Well you’d be wrong. This happens regularly and many shops are outright crooks. That’s a fact.

And there are lots of guys like you out there who’d rather pay someone else to do their work. Nothing new there. I can easily afford to pay anyone to do all my work too. I just happen to love to work.

You’re one of those “know it all” negative nancys. I bet you’ve got lots of friends.

I couldn’t give a rats ass why they said what they said. Bottom line is that SM got put in his place. That’s all I care about. But they did do their job, they pleased a customer. I got exactly what I wanted.

You’re not gonna get the dealers name so ya might as well stfu about it. I’ve got a family and don’t announce my location on the WWW for their safety.
