Has anyone installed the A pillar grab handle on driver side? I found this on a parts site and wonder if the trim panel needs to be replaced as well?

I did. Besides the oem parts, you’ll need the custom bracket. It’s a great simple mod :)

Thanks. I had contacted the bracket maker before, just hadn't ordered it yet. I've also read the install threads, and it seems totally doable. What's the best method of removing the A-pillar trim cover without messing it up?

@Daytonaviolet, I read through your build thread, hoping for some pics. I didn't see that shown, but may have just missed 'em.

The directions that come with the bracket are pretty good. Very little chance of damaging the a pillar trim. I would suggest getting a longer screw for the lower mounting position. That’s the only hiccup I had.

once you pop off the srs plastic cap, there’s one screw in there. After that the A pillar trim just pulls right off.

The kit included a temple which you use to make the lower hole.

the custom bracket will be used for the newly cut trim hole. You’ll also need to drill two holes to secure the custom bracket.

Did you have to do this to the back of the trim piece, or did yours fit without doing this:

A longer screw that the handle mounts with?

Yes forgot about that. You’ll need to flatten that area as the brackets clip will sit on that. The black material above that hole is what was removed.

Sorry for all the questions - 'supplied screws' being the ones supplied with the Toyota grab handle, or the bracket?

I'm putting the parts list together to get everything ordered. If anyone has that already listed, as far as the part #s from Toyota for the grey grab handle, and can send me that, it would be great. Meantime, I'll see what I can come up with...am I correct in thinking the handle is the same for both sides, just flipped end for end, or are they side specific?

    Thanks for all the help.

Edit: never mind on the grab handle parts list. It's in post #1 of the link above.

If you go to the 4R.org thread linked above, it gives the email address for Jason, who manufactures the brackets. That is how you order them, or PM him from that 4R site if you are a member.

I just emailed Jason today to see if he had any in stock, what the current price is, and said I want to place an order. Emailing him would be best for pricing.

    For the grey:

    Grip Handle Part #: 74680-60010-B0
Grip Handle Hole Cover Part #: 74615-60040-B0
Grip Handle Hole Cover Part #: 74616-60040-B0

Take your time, measure three times and drill once. I used a sharp utility knife to cut the black plastic.

I ordered the bracket from Jason. I believe it includes the bracket, the mounting hardware for the bracket, and a template for where to make the holes, for the bracket and the hole in the A-pillar trim, I believe. What I don't know is if mounting bolts are included for the grip handle...I think so.

A question for those who've already installed this - does the bracket use an existing threaded/or non-threaded hole in the sheet metal behind the cover for one side of the bracket, and you have to drill a hole for the other side of the bracket? Or do you have to drill holes for both sides of the bracket?

Jason just confirmed in an email that all the hardware needed comes with the kit. All that needs to be ordered elsewhere is the handle with the two caps.

Good to hear. I have everything on the way also. If you didn't live across the country, this would be a nice project to collaborate on. Good luck with the installation.

Did i miss something on this grab handle mod? Does no one feel the handle above the door is adequate? I use mine every time i get in, and it seems fine to me.

I don't know about you, but for me that handle above the door is useless for some things. I've tried to do what you're saying, and it always seems to just be in the wrong place, or the wrong angle for exit and entry. I do use it if I need to access the roof or up high, but I hate it for entering/leaving the vehicle. That's just my take.
