I recently installed a southern style offroad bumper and have no idea where to put my front license plate. I live in CA so it's the law, I've been driving around my home town and cops dont seem to mind. I feel like I'm going to have to put it somewhere when I drive anywhere else. I've seen others place it on the front grill but I dont want to restrict air flow.
    Any suggestions?

On the SSO bumper I got one that flips open and I would not recommend this if you are doing the License Plate over the winch line. I have noticed that the bumper has an angle and the holder will flip in a position that interferes with the winch line. Get something that removes easy. I think Tuffy sells a couple models that are well priced.

I put mine on the bottom grille opening works fine, no worries on air flow restriction...

It's required in WA also but I haven't ran a front plate in over 15 years. Been pulled over twice for it and it's been a warning each time. Just tell them that it got ripped off when you out wheeling and you haven't had a chance to fix it yet. Not worth covering up an awesome bumper like that. How difficult was the install?

Also in Calif; I don't run a front plate on either truck. No one up here cares, at worst you'll get a ticket which - even if coded as non correctable by the officer - will be made correctable by the court. Zip tie the plate on your grille, get the ticket signed off, remove the plate.

Took me 1 hour to assemble and a trip Home Depot (Lowe’s or ACE will work too).

    Shipping list:
    1 can — Plasti Dip (any color) — $6.20
1 pk — Stainless Steel machine screws (choose appropriate size and length)
1 pk — Stainless Steel thread locking nuts (matching screw)
1 pk — Stainless Steel washers (4ct) (optional)
2 ct — 20/25lb round magnets (see image)

Drill/enlarge hole through metal housing of magnets to receive screws, match to size of license plate holes (as desired). Recommend placing magnet in vice and starting drill from outside (non-magnet side) of housing; this reduces metal shavings on the magnet.

Clean magnets. Spray magnet side with Plasti Dip. I layered on 3 coats, 10 minutes of sun-based drying between coats.

Insert screws through magnet housing, head side inside the magnet opening. Attach to back of (car’s front plate) license plate, and secure with locking nuts.

Use magnets to attach plate to front of bumper. (Photos to follow.)

Your lucky. In Illinois it's a ticket. Last time I got pulled over, I said sorry officer it must have come off in the car wash. Got a ticket, went to court and my penalty was sit all day in court as they made it the last call of the day. Judge looked at it, shook his head, said sorry and dismissed it

In place of. Scorpion brand coating we used to spray it at where I worked but we ditched all bedlining and went back to paint. The mess that stuff makes from overspray is a PITA to remove and clean up.

I’m curious what you ended up doing. I have the same set up. Moved from Cali to Hawai’i so now I need a front plate to pass inspection here or else the DMV won’t register my vehicle.

I’ve got mine on magnets. Attach it for inspection and remove it when you get home
