I have been investigating Roof Tents for my 85 4 Runner...I have no roof rack and of course the fiberglass top has no mounting points for anything...has anyone ever put a Roof Tent on their fiberglass top and how did you do it?
Thanks for any help or thoughts...

I have thought of this too and this is what I came up with. I worked as a fabricator for years and have made quite a few lumber racks for pickups and a few with canopies. I would essentially build a lumber rack that mounted to the bedrails under the top. You would probably have to come up with a new seal for your top though. Another option would be kind of like an exo cage. If you had rock sliders you could run hoops over the top that either tie into your sliders or frame and then mount your tent to said hoops. That's just what I have brainstormed

Hey 4Scooter19...thanks for the quick reply...that looks really good!!! I can see your a creative guy! I like the way you have it attached to the sides instead of putting holes in fiberglass top...that was my big concern. I'll do some brain storming on your design but it appeals to me

Thanks man. I did not build the one in the photo I shared, just a pic to show an example of a possible way to do it. In the pic I don't think there are holes. I think those are tabs welded to probably a piece of flat bar that runs the length of the bedrails.
