When it Rains, or the 4Runner gets washed

...the wipers come on. They won’t cut off until it’s dry. Is water getting into the wiper motor? How can I get it to stop this?

 

Do you have auto wipers?

 

Did the 91 SR5 Have that as an option?
I mean it has a switch inside to turn the wipers on and off

 

That’s sounds more badass than a problem, unless they are on when the engine is off.

 

Not unless someone put it on aftermarket. I think some Lexus' had it but that is what yours sounds like to me. Strange.

 

whaaa....? did someone install auto wipers on that bad boy.!? Hard to imagine another reason for the timing of when they turn on/off...

 

Once it is dry enough, it shuts off. I figured it was a short in the motor, wiring, plug, or something

 

So...I still haven’t figured this out. I rinsed off the 4Runner and they didn’t come on. After driving for a little while, the water got to wherever it needed to get to and they came on. It was a sunny day. When they kick on, I can control low and high, but they won’t shut off. They actually stated on for a good 15 minutes while driving around in the sun. Then, they just shut off.

I’m wondering if I should change out the motor or if I need to trace the wiring

 

Check th wiring harness or maybe fuse box under dash. Your windshield could be leaking on to it.

Check your sunroof drains if they are clogged it will leak into the headliner and down to the fuse area inside near the drivers side. That's what mine did I cleared the drains and stopped the water leaking in the cab up front. There are 2 drain holes you can find them when sunroof is open in each front corner they are pretty small.
