This is the new T9 version though... it is "supposed" to fix the shortcomings of the T8. I just took a gamble and ordered one today; but while hopeful, I'll be keeping my expectations low, lol. My entune screen just went dead, so I was going to buy something aftermarket one way or another. Figured it was worth a shot, especially if I can successfully run off road mapping apps off of it.

True. I didn’t catch the t9 vs t8 part. I’d be interested to hear a good review of it when installed.

Yeah.....do a video review of the T9 after it's installed. The bluetooth streaming quality and general lag of the T8 I saw in reviews made it not worth it to me.

I would have waited to see if the 2020 radio will be retro fitted. It almost looks the same.

Agreed, I've tried asking Toyota about this but I keep getting a response about how I should only use Toyota parts as to not ruin the performance of the vehicle. So clearly my emails are not being read by a human or at least by anyone who cares but I thought at least the more times I ask they might see enough interest to address this :notsure:

Mine was supposed to arrive yesterday, but wasn’t there to sign for it. Hopefully will get out of work on time today to pick it up from the post office.

I did also get an email from cartrimhome overnight about how some units may have shipped with the wrong harness and that new correct ones would be sent out soon... still waiting for specifics on that that meant, but looks like it was just a SIM card plug or something in harness that was wrong. Or I guess I’ll find out later today if/when I open mine.

    - Heard the 2020's will be around in late August. I assume the parts will be available by then as well.

    - Please let us know what size sim card it takes. Micro/nano/standard/etc.

The cost to upgrade to the new Toyota head unit will probably make this t9 way more enticing if the t9 doesn’t have the same quirks as the previous model.

Agreed. Still holding out till the OEM pricing for the new HU is out. If it's a little more, I'd rather go OEM. While the T9 will last 10 years or more, the software will no longer be supported. So youtube and otehr apps will no longer work. Yay android HU's!

If it’s anything like the current OE head unit that’s $2800-$4100 depending on the options. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2020 headunit with entune 3.0 is north of $4k

This is why I’m not holding out on a budget friendly entune 3.0 price

Got it installed last night... I did get the wrong SIM card harness; everything else was fine, it was just the SIM . The one I received looked like it took a micro sized card, but not sure if it will be the same for the correct one I was supposed to receive.

Initial thoughts: (take with a grain of salt; I got a late start on install, so experience is still very limited).

    The good:
*It is very fast. Startup time is only a few seconds; by the time I put my seat belt on, it's on. I have not experienced any noteworthy lag.

*Wireless apple car play does take a moment to load, as it connects to the phone, but it's tolerable. Once connected, going back and forth or moving around within car play is reasonably fast.

*Install was easy and the fit was good. You're left with a big bunch of wires, but there is plenty of room to stuff it all in behind the radio.

    The bad:
*I cannot get signed in to the play store. I get the sign in button, I click it, and I get stuck on "Checking Info". I have tried much troubleshooting, including clearing data/cache, force closing, powering off/on, etc... still no luck. Even tried signing into google through other routes (such as chrome), and it takes me to the same screen "Checking Info".

My only real draw to the T9 was the ability to have offroad navigation apps front and center (rather than having my phone or tablet hanging off a mount). Planning to hit some trails this weekend, so hoping I can figure this out before then... not going to get very far if I can't download and install the apps.

*While listening to music via apple car play this morning on the way to work; the audio quality was good, but I did get some intermittent interruptions. Just for a split second, every once in a while, it would cut out. This was with downloaded songs, so should not have been a network/data issue; and I don't recall this having been the experience before with streaming via bluetooth on Entune.

Regarding your comment about intermittent interruptions, I wonder if that is a CarPlay characteristic? My last car had CarPlay as well and I would occasionally hear a “skip” in the music. I couldn’t figure out what was causing it and eventually just accepted it as a quirk of CarPlay.

I had a sony unit with carplay and never noticed the "skip" in music.

I had it with a kenwood unit in my Taco, and I don't recall having skip issue before either... but also wasn't wireless. It was using the lightning cable/usb. Will keep an ear out for it and see if issue continues to persist. Also going to try just playing over bluetooth and see if it duplicates or not.

Yup, mine was wired Carplay only as well. A few weird glitches sometimes, but overall I really liked Carplay (it was in my Tacoma). I'll be getting something with Carplay soon for the 4Runner.

Just one quick update - was able to finally fix the google play store sign in issue. The trick was to clear cache/data for all the google related apps (play store, play services, google), then specifically swipe down from the top of the screen and click on reset. (just powering off/on didn't work). Once that was done, it finally launched and gave me the login screen.

Cool, really interested to hear your review on it after a bit of time and usage. I like the functionality of it. My biggest problem with aftermarket HU that have carplay is that they look weird in our dash with the dash kit. It is too big of an area of blank plastic where the knobs and side buttons once were. This unit just looks much better in the dash and seems to have the functionality I'm looking for.

Also interested in your review after usage. Fingers crossed as I love the look and potential functionality. I get disgusted just looking at my Entune 2.0 head unit. Such a POS for a 2018 car.
