Been looking to spend a little extra cash on my 5th 4Runner. However I wasn’t sure what cold air intake I should get, also not knowing exactly what the pros/cons would be if I got one installed.

I got the TRD intake. Pro... Makes the engine sound less like a blender. Con... Same result can be had just by removing the air resonator and plumbing the holes.

Yes the TRD intake is expensive, but I would have liked to install it sooner. Removing the air resonator (the big plastic housing that attaches to the intake tube in two spots and takes up a stupid amount of room in the engine bay) makes the engine sound like an engine and less like a blender. Noticed less of the "gas smell" (fumes coming off the cats) with the rear window down also. I'm sure you can get the same results by removing the resonator and capping off the holes in the inlet duct. Just won't be as purdy, but your talking 20.00 vs 350.00.

Anyone got any pics of how they capped off the resonators after they removed them?

Just makes the motor a bit louder. As long as it's sealed there are no issues.

Silly question, but what are those pvc stoppers called? I plan to stop by home depot this weekend and pick some up! Plan on showing the pic to someone there, but my store no longer has "old timers" that know anything and everything. Just younger people and those less knowledgeable (like me).

I have Seen it done that way also, but I felt the soft rubber of the inlet tube would seal better against a had surface like the stock resonator.

Correct, so the rubber is clamped down to it.

Your SUV comes with a cold-air-intake from the factory. You are going to turn it into a “HAI”, hot-air-intake....
