2019 4Runner TRD PRO - MPG thoughts

Tomorrow I'm taking a 2019 Pro for another test drive. This time I want to focus on MPG because of comments I see on this forum. The first test drive the Pro only had 1 mile on it and I put on 7. When I confirmed an appointment for another test drive tomorrow, I had the sales person confirm the mileage and the odometer reads 8 miles; however, the Average MPG is 9.4. On my way to work this morning I reset my Average MPG's to 0, drove to work, and in under a mile I was already up to 12 MPP, ending my 5 mile commute with an 18.1 MPG. My 2018 TRD OR averages 19.5 MPG.

How can I get a true reading of this 2nd Test Drive tomorrow. Even though it's a 2019, shouldn't I be able to reset MPG to 0 and expect the same results I have with my 2018 TRD OR? Thanks in advance!

 

Can't get an accurate mpg with any test drive. Probably around the second tank of gas you'll have a better idea

 

I'm not looking for accurate...just a ballpark. There shouldn't be a difference between my resetting my MPG to 0, or the new Pro to 0, and driving 10 or 15 miles to see what the results are...?

 

the onboard MPG readout isn't a very good test for short mileage trips. It takes the instantaneous MPG that you're getting every X seconds and averages them out. If you just happen to be on the throttle at the time it takes the reading, your average will drop pretty heavily. thats why you want to have 2-3 tanks without resetting it before you start taking that readout seriously.

 

Thanks! I'm so close to pulling the trigger on the Pro...but am a little concerned with posts I read here with some getting poor mpg.

Fuelly.com has the 2019 Pro averaging 18mpg, then it tapers off in both directions...some as low as 14mpg. Crazy.

 

it also depends very heavily on people's driving habits. It took me a few weeks to adjust from driving a sports car and flooring it, to the 4Runner. my MPG has been increasing with every tank. a difference of 4MPG on a full tank is ~1.5/2 gallons, so like $6. for a $50k truck, that is nothing. Stop worrying about it, get a 4R, and enjoy it!

 

100s of factors with different drivers.
Driving style, fast or slow, climate, fuel-cheap gas or non ethanal, hills or flatland...tore size and or lift. Air pressure in tires etc etc.eyc

 

I've already been driving a 2018 TRD OR for 18 months - love it - averaging 19.1 mpg. My driving style won't change with a Pro - but I'm concerned that the mpg will significantly change. I absolutely love my TRD OR!

 

You are way overthinking this dude, the biggest difference is the tires/lift, and those will affect MPG, but not enough to break the bank. Worst case, its the cost of a fancy coffee per tank. Stop worrying about MPG and just enjoy the sick truck.

I get 17 to 18 on my stock pro but I keep it mostly in the ECO mode. If you have more of a lead foot you will probably be down in 16 to 15.

 

Mine is always in the ECO mode. I will take reliably over gas mileage. Lol. I’m fine with the gas mileage and power it produces. It serves all my purposes. I do mostly all highway and my gauge is always estimating between 19 and 20. Mostly near 19.

 

Just wondering why you bought the blue silver gets 2 more MPG.
