LED recommendations for 2019 4Runner SR5 premium.

Looking to upgrade my lighting throughout with LED options. When I researched there is a ton of choices. Just wanting options with the easiest installation as possible that are compatible with my 4Runner. Appreciate any suggestions! Cheers! -mrc

HIDs are much better than LEDs for the headlights.

I'd go with sylvania zevo (local auto parts store) or Philips ultinon (Amazon) for all interior bulbs. They're great quality and just plain work. And they work well. Don't buy a "kit" online. Most are sub-par and a different style of bulb entirely.

For exterior bulbs (other than reverse and headlights) I'd suggest the same thing (sylvania or Philips).

For reverse lights (921) go with this bulb (it's great):

For headlights, don't do LED. Get the GE Megalight +130 for low beams. Here's the amazon link:

For high beams, any random 9005 halogen will suffice.

I put laminX yellow film over my Philips fogs and they're great. A huge improvement over stock.

I've done loads of research and ran a lot of bulb brands and types on both 4runner and Tacoma. Others will have other opinions, but these are mine.

 

I did the internal with a kit from HIDKitPros which swapped all the internal lights, puddle lights and license plate.

Morimoto HID Elite for low Beams

HID was a little bit more involved but worth it. I don't do much work on cars and I was able to figure it out

Are LED Headlights just as bad as the 3rd gen tacoma with stock being superior at light throw?

I had a 3rd gen tacoma that i temporarily installed lowbeam LED bulbs. Light throw sucked really bad and i went back to the stock bulb as it was far superior. I was wondering if it is the same issue for the 5th gen 4runner.

HIDs work great in my 4runner

 

Drop in LED's in halogen reflectors generally suck. They light up the 40 feet in front of the vehicle pretty well but not much beyond that. They also blind oncoming drivers due to light scatter.

 

Projectors focus the light from a specific point. LEDs dont have that magic spot where light is focused from, causing weird issues and poor performance. HIDs have the arc of light at the same 360* focal point as the halogens, but with much brighter light for better performance. A shitty HID kit may cause issues because the manufacturer doesnt put the arc chamber in the correct spot (either with a shitty base or incorrect length tube) and these will cause all sorts of problems. I've personally used Morimoto for the last 7 years on my vehicles, and never once had a problem. The 4runner still has a perfect beam cut off and a ridiculous improvement over the stock bulbs.
