is it dumb to just concentrate the wax or polish or whatever on the scratched area and ignore the rest of the car? i just want to get the scratches out if i can, i dont think i really need to do the whole thing.

That's totally fine to just try to improve the scratch and nothing else. When you're done, you'll want to apply a wax or sealant to the whole truck.

You might like to try Meguiars new Hybrid Ceramic Wax. You spray it all over the vehicle and then rinse it off with a jet of water from the hose. That's it.

I've used it. You put the first coat on a washed vehicle (after washing while still wet). Spray it on and wipe it in with a towel just like applying a spray wax.

After that initial application, when you wash your vehicle you simply spray a few spritzes on a panel and blast it off with a hose. You end up with a vehicle that beads like it's just been waxed. If you want easy, this is a good option.

As far as looks go, no it's not gonna knock your socks off. But it does provide some nice protection for those that don't like to "wax" their vehicles. I'd probably apply it monthly, although I think they say it lasts for a few months.

It can also be used to simply extend or "boost" your existing protection. In this case I wouldn't bother with the "wipe it in" initial application. I'd just mist the panels, blast it with a hose, and proceed to drying the truck.

I don't know how these products work, but they do work. Amazing.

    I've also tried it.

I did the version where you spray and wipe off. Got the whole truck done in less than an hour and the results have been very nice.

It's been on 2 weeks now and has held up very nicely with quite a few rainy days (for Southern California standards).

I worry a little bit about the version that you just spray off with the hose as opposed to wiping off. I haven't looked much into the chemical make-up, but I worry about it going down the drain and the potential harm it could cause (I swim in the ocean quite often which is downstream from all gutter runoff).
