This topic has popped up in another thread. I thought it might be worth starting a dedicated thread to the topic.

I'm aware that there are existing threads on this topic, but I would like to get specific feedback from people who have ceramic coated their trucks, or have had it applied professionally.

Here are the questions I have:

Did you apply your ceramic coating, or have it applied professionally?

    What product?

    Cost?

Are you satisfied with the results?

Does it help prevent minor scratches/ trail rash? I'm not expecting miracles, just curious if it seems to be any harder to scratch than the factory clear coat.

Also open to any other relevant discussion/BS

Thanks in advance for any input.

I have a kit but have not applied it yet. Hell I don't even remember the name it's been so long since I bought it. I had planned on doing the roof myself before installing the roof rack. Well the roof rack has not come in yet so just waiting. Will post later on which kit it is.

I'm kinda the same.. But, I spend my idle time driving around, fishing, camping, ETC. I've been working my way up the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail bit by bit, with other shenanigans mixed in this spring.

Agreed @Thatbassguy im an extreme outdoorsman. My youngest son (14) has a passion for the outdoors and we fish and hunt together every chance (just did today) and my oldest son (21) passion is 4x4’s, muddin, and turning wrenches. So I’m a lucky dad that two of my three kids shares my passions in life. Our daughter (19), well she’s still tring ton figure out what she likes. She’s learning to be a new mom for the past year. But we do camp alot as a family.

As many of you know, tomorrow, our vehicle will be going in for ceramic coating and xpel wrap tomorrow (plus tint).
I will take many pictures upon delivery & start a thread to update on how easy it is to clean & if xpel is truly self repairing.
We have no dog in this fight.
We are paying over $3k for coating, wrap & tint.
I am hoping for amazing results. However I don't have a problem telling it how it is.
I will call out installer & everything (good or bad) after install. Pics on site show Bentleys and Ferraris! I think our T4R is in safe hands.
My OCD azz will report anything we come across.
I still feel crazy for doing this due to the price... If it has a 10yr warranty and keeps the paint factory fresh... It will be well worth it!
    Sorry for length.
We are truly set to test this tomorrow morning!
FYI. They need out truck till Friday.
That will be the first time we will see it.
I will take pics upon delivery.

@Thatbassguy I got my TRD Pro ceramic coated, it cost me 720.00. They buffed out any scratches and plus got a three layer coat. With a five year guarantee protection. They do need to be maintenance every year they charge 320.00 to recoat that includes buffing out.IMG_20190425_125237.jpg IMG_20190425_125217.jpg

Nothing against the application to your vehicle. The beast is beautiful!
I was told (and will confirm tomorrow), that if you clear wrap it at the time of ceramic coating. There is no yearly maintenance needed. With the xpel wrap there is no yearly maintenance needed alone...
There is a 10 yr warranty again rock chips, peeling & yellowing.

@4Runner fun thanks!! I looked at that option and saw after awhile it yellows. So I decided to just do the ceramic instead.

If it yellows & they are out of business...
I will peal it & have a factory fresh paint job.
Even if the detailer goes out of business, I don't see xpel doing the same.
Warranty is transferable and we are excited to review.
Not a cheap upgrade that is for sure. We usually keep our vehicles for over 10 yrs...
We are getting the full front clip, a-pillars, doors & rear bumper done.
    Just more facts.
    Fingers crossed!

I had a Ceramic Pro coating professionally applied. It came with a 5 year warranty, and cost just shy of $1,000. I've been very pleased with it so far. Can't speak to how well it might resist trail pinstripes, but I have not gotten the sort of light scratches I usually do around the door handles, or "spider webbing" from washing. The best part of it, to me, is that it just always looks clean. Pollen doesn't stick as bad, waterspots from rain don't happen, etc.

So I may be out of this in terms of overall results.
Not only am I ceramic coating; the Xpel wrap is very thick.
Therefore, I cannot judge the results of just ceramic coating.
Here is the proof. Without a long explanation of the learning process I got today.
    This is all amazing stuff!
Ceramic coating alone does not self heal as I have learned to date. Some brand may...
    https://youtu.be/ND4vE9vmQWE
I am not endorsed by xpel, I paid for this & I hope this link is okay....
I will show the receipt when we get our vehicle back.

I’m definitely interested in the ceramic coating but still unsure about the material overlay. I’ve read bad things about it yellowing.

It has a 10 year warranty.
    Worried about what?
Call your local installer. You will "need" it.
If this keeps our paint & headlights factory fresh for even 7 years. I am cool with that.
    Then warranty it...

I'm picking my runner up tomorrow. Ceramic pro with lifetime warranty. Check once a year. No charge to check and reapply yearly. 2,347.00.
    2019 nightshade.
    What's being ceramic coated:
    All the paint
    All the interior
    The windows all around outside
    The fog lights
    The headlights
The king shocks front and rear haven't installed yet. Going to set the ride height before putting on.
    The rear icon springs

I appreciate all of the feedback so far. There is definitely a wide range of cost and different types of products.

I called a local performance auto shop to ask for a quote today, but never got a call back. I might call a few more places later this week.

Has anyone had a car ceramic coated in the southeastern Wisconsin area?

Can you post some pictures of the results? Or link to where you posted about it? I tried searching and can't find it.

I would prefer DIY, if I thought the results would be as good as a professional application.
