New owner here. When I turn off the engine for about one or two seconds I get a whirling sound in the engine that Reba/whistles hi and then turns off. The sound is similar to that of what a turbo engine makes when it engages.

Is this the fan turning off? Or something in the engine?

There is also a vapor recovery system that’ll kick on periodically after the vehicle is turned off. If you’re ever near it after it’s been sitting a while and you hear a whirring noise, it’s perfectly normal.

I think this happens like 4-8 hours after shut down. Noise comes from near the gas tank.

in the engine area when the engine is turned off most times it is the air injection pump

This, in the engine bay the secondary air pump makes a whooshing noise.

thank you. Never had a car sound like it was something reving up before shutting down when engine was turning off. Sounds kind of cool as if its releasing pressure after that exhausting drive :)

    Is plasti-dip a mod?!
Mine does it too, must be the flux capacitor shutting down.

The unit filter mod? Depends. Want to spend $20-$25 on a filter and a few minutes time or $300+ for a replacement pump?

I’ve read threads where the filter element begins to disintegrate and foul the pump requiring it to be replaced. Some have lasted 50k, 60k and 80k or more before failure and some in the 40k range
