LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT?

    Silly question....is there one? Not that I was really trying to run it low on purpose but the needle was damn near on E last night when I filled up but no light came on.

    Is it about a 23 gallon tank? With the needle on E it filled up just under 19 gallons.

    mine comes on typically about an 1/8" above the E.

    yeah there is. be mindful of the mileage display as well, they sometimes dont match up that well...i came really close to running out of gas soon after i bought mine, bc i wasnt used to burning that much fuel. made it to a pine barrens gas station, that was fun.

    I'm thinking I need to play around with the display button...not sure that will help with the gas light issue I do miss knowing how many miles I've got left until E even if it's just a rough estimate.

    Oh, it’s there. I’ve squeezed in around 21.5 gallons after it’s come one and I started sweating. Somewhere in BF Nebraska where there’s miles and miles between exits.

    This is not good way to treat your runner vehicle abuse ..

    keep the fuel above 1/4 at all times. when you fill it before your drive //// each 1/4 of the tank indicator should be 4 gallons..then when the needle is at the full mark 3 more goes in..

    I fill up when most times at the 1/2 mark so I can add 12.5 gallons.. now I know the gas gauge is reading correctly.. do this all the time you do not want to run out of gas...then have to pay $800 for a new fuel pump..

    I usually fill up at 1/4 tank and stick to shell or chevron gas but this stretch of was completely void of either of those stations.

    No need to let it come on unless of course you're in the "Boonies" which will be another issue when you run out - just poor planning. Really no big deal to get gas at 1/4 tank as opposed to letting it run "on fumes." E doesn't mean "enough" :hattip:

    I feel old now. Growing up in PA, you never let your tank go below half during the winter months in case you got stuck. The last thing you wanted to do was run out of your heat source.

    I took that lesson to FL during hurricane months, so when you got stuck in traffic escaping, you wouldn’t run out.

    I guess I relaxed it a bit in CA but I still never let it go below 1/4 of a tank.

    Funny thing is I don’t do this on my motorcycle. Guess that’s just easier to push out of the way and wait.

    The fuel pump always get gas from the bottom of the tank. Doesnt matter if the tank if full or empty. I dont know why I think this conversation is funny but it is. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL.

    I also think this is funny running on gas fumes ...now if these are designed like my 1984 camaro no problem just carry a gas container with you .. no electric pumps so no problem..

    since these have electric pumps and your creating air bubbles with just 3 gallons or less in the tank the pump wil over heat and over rev just like flooring the gas pedal when out of gear .. what is good when people run on gas fumes a chinese child will still have a job..

    Hmmm you've never hear of that regarding running a tank low? A few vehicles ago (Ford Explorer) dealer service mgr told me he gets vehicles in for this all the time. Dirty filters, etc when ever they got something in running "sluggish" with no other visual reasons he always asked the owner if they run it down low between fill-ups told me 8 out of 10 times that was the cure. All I can say about that just marched to his wisdom ever since. My POS Ford was in for terrible leaks through a couple gaskets that vehicle was a pain.

    I'm on my third vehicle since December of 1999.

    In short...I concur about POS Fords....never again!

    My digression is below..lol

    My 1998 Dodge Avenger (Which was a great car since it was really a Mitsubishi Eclipse - always went to the Mitsubishi dealer to buy parts as they were about 1/2 of what the Dodge dealers charged). It never had any leaks until the ethanol gas started making its way into the market (Maybe it was just the age of the car but my gut always told me the dried out gaskets were related to the sudden change of gas), but I traded it in with 125k miles on it in March 2011 for my 2008 Lincoln MKZ. I only traded it in because I had negotiated a new driveway with the city when they were doing construction and needed me to sign a new property easement agreement. The last thing I wanted was leak stains on the new driveway. Traded the MKZ 400 miles shy of 100k last month for the 4Runner. The Avenger was a much better car. I couldn't believe how crappy the Lincoln turned out to be. Everything from the dash peeling (since at least 2013) to a sudden decrease in horsepower, and then the engine mounts failing multiple times causing major shift noises going from reverse to drive. I was at the point where I needed to dump between $1500-$2000 in maintenance/repairs so I was happy to take what they offered for trade. At the end of the day the Lincoln was an 11 year old car, but I'm someone that averages likes 6500-7000 miles a year since I live 3 miles from work. The wear and tear between the 13 year old Avenger and the 11 year old MKZ was night and day.
