I already called my insurance company and they are going to reach out to the other guys insurance company on Monday. They already told me that if the guy doesn't have legit coverage, my uninsured motorist cover will kick in and I will only pay $250 (my deductible).

The person with Progressive (my insurance) said "You have a police report, which is all we need to make it a valid uninsured claim. Otherwise we would cover you as a standard collision claim."

I'll let the insurance companies fight it out and sit back and watch. I can only do so much.

Might as well put one of these on there. Looks just as classy, and won't provide leverage to bend your frame if something more substantial than a Cavalier hits you.

    Update:

Okay, I could not have made this up if I tried....

I finally got a hold of the guy's insurance company. I was bounced around a bit because the parent company has several subsidiaries. The guy has VALID insurance. No shit, I was (still am) as shocked as you are. He doesn't have a drivers license, but has insurance? It was some kind of blanket policy that covers multiple cars and multiple people. When I called the first time, I gave them a general description of the vehicle "90's model Chevy Cavalier". They said "Which one? He owns a few."

Who in the hell owns several versions of the same 90's car? LOL

I had to get his real name and info from the police report. The lady on the phone said "Yup, that's the guy who pays for the policy."

A detective with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office called me this morning and asked me again "Sir, do you wish to press charges?" I said yes, of course. He told me the list of charges: No drivers license. Felony hit and run. Felony DUI. He also had an Immigration & Customs Enforcement hold on him for a very serious charge (the cop said he hurt someone really bad - that's all he would say).

He directed me to the DA's website to upload exhibits showing the damage and the video of the hit n run. He said it will help prove their case (showing he was swerving and stuff). The detective also told me not to worry because the driver and his passenger were still in jail. The passenger had warrants and an ICE hold too. Both had no-bond. So they aren't going anywhere for awhile.

Man, what a turn of events. A simple traffic accident and the guy turned out to be a Felony DUI hit-n-run with no drivers license, but he carried LEGIT insurance? 99 times out of a 100, it goes the other way. What a weird plot twist. I'll know for sure in a few days that my repairs are officially approved.

This right here. Was in the auto body industry for 15 years. Can't count how many frames were bent due to hits just like this. Frame bends/buckles where the hitch mounting brackets bolt to frame.

Yeah, I'm as stunned as you are. He doesn't have a valid license, but he is the valid policy owner and the vehicle that hit me is covered. Everyone I have told this story to all said the same thing "Plot twist! I didn't see that one coming!!"

Since you have a twisted and yet, immature sense of humor I thought you'd find this funny.

This morning I was showing the pictures of the accident to one of the attorney's in my firm and told him the story. He looked at the guys car, then looked at the trailer hitch with the three trailer balls on it:

Him: Dude, you better hope he doesn't come back at you in 9 months with a paternity test.
    Me: Huh? What the...
Him: Because you went BALLS deep all up in that!

    I burst out laughing.

So I guess there's a take away here for young drivers.

Kids, stay in school, don't do drugs and if you're gonna drive drunk without a license, make sure you have insurance...
