Take pics of the damage. Helped me when I did a trade in and the dealer asked me about the Carfax that said minor damage reported. I showed them a pic of the trim piece knocked off and they said it was a total nothing.

    Glad you’re ok @Borracho Loco!

It would be a little awkward if the Cavalier ends up pregnant though.

Glad you’re ok. With the diminished value payout you can afford lots of new raptor lights. And a widdle wadder.

Fyi. Make sure you request a oem bumper cover. I recently got mine replaced and didn't ask, they used aftermarket and it's not near the quality as oem.

Cav driver, "Insurance? We don't need no stinkin' insurance. Hand me a beer..."

Many years ago my wife got hit by some jamoke from Louisiana. Demolished her car, she wasn't hurt. He didn't have insurance, but he had a card showing he did.

    Here's the scam.

In TX, at that time, and I'll bet nothing's changed, you could "buy" an insurance policy good for a year by making a small down payment. They'd get a "proof of insurance" card good for a year. Then not make another payment and get dropped.

But they still had "proof of insurance" for a year. When that card expired, they do it again.

When pulled over they show the "proof of insurance" to the cop and avoid getting busted for no insurance.

When I called his "insurance" company. They said he didn't have insurance and that "proof of insurance" isn't proof of insurance...

    Go Figure...

Yeah, I'm well aware of this scam/hustle and I strongly suspect that's what is going to be the case.

The sad part about this is, here in Harris County about 10 years ago, law enforcement went on this kick to say that they are able to verify policies from their vehicles, and are going to be "cracking down" on uninsured drivers really hard.

I'm not getting it, since it's become a worse problem now. I've witnessed only a handful of cops actually doing this on the roadways... mainly the State Troopers and County Constables. (Having the plate readers)

The others, maybe it's just being understaffed or pure laziness.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Just out of curiosity, not trying to be argumentative, how do you know they aren't? Unless you're the person who is being pulled over, how do you have any idea what they do and don't do? Maybe in their agency they are getting the insurance info as part of the return from dispatch when they run the DL and reg? Maybe they are running it on their MDC prior to the stop? If you mean you don't see them sitting in their cruiser during the stop, doing what you assume is checking the MDC for the driver's insurance, there could be very good reasons for that. Sitting in your cruiser during a stop is horrible officer safety, even though some agencies still allow it. Some places are very backwards when it comes to officer safety. At the department my daughter works for, they teach her to have drivers come back and sit in the front passenger seat of the patrol vehicle with them, unrestrained, while they conduct their business. It absolutely blows my mind that they haven't had a cruiser stolen or a cop assaulted with that horrible practice.

You make a few good points, @R1200Jedi, and I totally agree with you on certain agencies still having bad practices for officer safety! I really can't believe with your daughter's agency, they make drivers come sit in the front passenger seat with the cop. There are so many things that could go wrong.

I was more making reference to the supposed "crackdown" in this part of the state, of catching folks with no insurance here, which, in my opinion, has led to more folks driving without insurance. The worst part of it is, I know individuals that have been driving without insurance for a while, they get stopped, they get a ticket, slap on the wrist and tomorrow, they're back out at it again. It really disappoints me.

I have to say, hats off to your daughter, because it is a very difficult job, especially the way things are lately. Times certainly have changed in the last few years, and I can imagine it only makes things more difficult.

    Cheers,

    Sean

I tried to talk her out of it, but alas, she's her own person, and I've always encouraged my daughters to be independent in their thought processes and choices. Fortunately, her temperament and personality are a good fit for the job, and she seems to be doing well so far.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I was out running errands today. My usual washing the 4Runner and the weekly fill up. While I was at the car wash I pulled into the drying station stall to dry it off and vacuum out the inside. A guy in a truck walked up and said "Hey man, that's a SHARP looking ride."

I said thanks and then asked him "Would you believe me if I told you I was violently rear ended yesterday?" He of course said no because he couldn't see any damage right away. After washing and wiping down the bumper the damage was minimized greatly. From a few feet away it's very hard to see now.

Then I told him the story and showed him the trailer hitch and explained how it took the brunt of the damage. The guy swore he was going to buy one and even pulled out his phone, found the same one on Amazon and clicked 'Buy Now'.

Google their insurance company name and look at any reviews you can find. If it's anything like the fly by night crappy insurance company of the person who caused my wreck, use your own insurance to get your 4R fixed and they can go after them for you. Glad I did as it was not worth the headache for me. If you start a claim through their company first, your insurance can't help you.

Now you have me, wondering if I should change out my hitch or when not towing. I use the hitch below which is 100% solid not hollow inside of itself. I’ll bet you my Hitch weighs probably 20 pounds. But I think the extra accessories you have on your hitch Might be the reason for the damage but who knows.

After reading this I headed out to the garage and put the hitch back in.

Any update on the insurance claim? If I were you I’d notify my insurance company if you haven’t already done so.
