No oil presure

I have a 2020 1grfe engine. After overheating I have zero oil pressure I pulled the oil pan cleaned the oil pickup tube screen blew air threw passages checked oil cooler then took timing chain cover off and inspected pump. Engine cranks but no oil coming up through oil tubes to valve covers
Engine will start for two seconds shut off then obd reader says all coils and cam sensors fault code I reset same thing again. I don't want to keep cranking with zero oil going through engine I tested oil pump when timing chain cover was off by putting inlet into bucket of oil and using a drill with large socket. It pumps. Also when I put everything back together I primed the system through oil pressure sensor inlet with pump. Still no oil going through engine???

 

A shot in the dark, but have you confirmed with another oil pressure sender unit or a wet gauge to confirm you actually have 0 oil pressure and this not a defective sender unit?

 

That's not a shot in the dark, confirming oil pressure is step one.

 

Sorry to hear. How badly did it overheat? Did you do compression and leak-down tests? Did you hand-crank with plugs out to see if there is uneven resistance during full cycle?

If there is no oil pressure, and you know sensor to be OK, then you have a severe restriction in oil passages due to cooked oil forming sludge. Unlikely if the engine was in a good shape prior to overheating. More likely if the engine was already neglected prior to overheating and had sludge. Have you looked under valve covers to see the overall condition?

 

I only have 65000 miles. There is no oil coming up through the metal tubes that go to the valve covers on either side I took the timing chain cover off the pump looks good

 

Since you already ruled out an indication problem, have you checked the pressure regulator plugger in the oil pump that is not stuck open? that would bleed oil flow.

 

I'd confirm with another gage. It may take a few seconds for oil to get up top.. Confirm with gage and report back.

 

How many times do you think it has to crank over for oil to get to valve covers. I think every time you press the start button it house for about five seconds. I did this give it six times in a row

 

You do not want to try what have been suggested to you? Use a wet gauge or a know serviceable sender unit to confirm oil pressure first, there is no need to disassemble your engine to find out it could be something very simple. While inspecting the oil pump have you checked the pressure relief valve? If no oil is going in the tube to the heads the problem is probably before the tube.

 

I checked the relief vale and spring they seem ok what kind of gauge are you referring to do

Do you know why the engine overheated? Any chance this is related to zero oil pressure?

 

I pulled the motor intore it down I'm taking crank to machine shop I don't know why there was no pressure but I got damage now

Nevermind…I thought I recognized your user name. A quick review and I realized why. I’m surprised you’re still at this. I would have given up long ago and got a salvage engine or a different car.

Didn’t you have plastic on the oil pickup melt? That plastic could have plugged up oil passages.

Your last post seems to say you tore into it again and see more damage?

i would have just bought a short block. You have too many variables going on where you havent pin pointed the original problem.

 

The casting @ 10:00 position below the pump sure looks like a crack to me

 

Block must be cleaned, inspected, each oil passages cleaned with a soft brush/air to ensure not debris, same will apply to every parts in the oil circulation path.

Added: I noticed the orange stuff on the oil pan rail on the engine block, probably when you did re-installed the oil pan i guess, please use the proper sealer not silicone.

Hopefully you don’t put it back together until you find out why it doesn’t have oil pressure.
