If the new tire store can jack up the 4runner via the frame, why can't I use the floor jack at about the same points rather than the rear axle?

You can but the axle is lower so you will have less lift height from your jack because the frame is higher. Plus you have to overcome suspension droop.

Thanks for the fast response. I am just not comfortable with the round axle on that flat Toyota supplied screw jack top. The floor jack I have goes up to 21 inches so the tire should rise up enough. A piece of wood can help. Thanks again.

Fun fact is that you can use your floor jack right in the middle of the pumpkin and get both rear wheels off the ground at the same time to put your jack stands under the axle. Way easier than doing one side at a time.

This is the best solution I have found. It is little wiggly but is way....way better than the factory jack head.

I made 2adapters-for rear axle and front lower arm:
The front is a flat plate with pin that goes into hole in lower A arm.
The rear is a piece of pipe that fits the axle.IMG_0206.jpg IMG_0204.jpg

I built them for fun and had a friend weld my garage made pieces together.

I've seen those on Amazon, but yours looks waaay better.

If you ever decide to make a run of 'em, you have your first customer.
