The 5G 4Runner TCU calibration isn't horrible (like the 3G 3.5L Tacoma). We still do a good number of 5G 4Runners without access to the TCU calibration, it's still a pretty significant improvement over the OE calibration.

It's potentially our next platform. We have 5.7L Tundra/Sequoia/Land Cruiser/LX570 in the process at the moment.

Does the TCU adjust itself to the recalibrated ECU?

There are adaptive trims within the TCU related to the transmission, yes. But all of the "core" parameters and functions are fixed within the calibration. Things like shift points, torque converter lock-up/release points, line pressure, torque management, etc. all remain the same as the OEM calibration.

OTT making the 4runner fun again... And Magnuson. Big thank you to Drake at Adventure Motors, but one should be careful going there as the mod bug bites hard just pulling in the parking lot. So many nice trucks and walking in the door slaps one in the face with mods; rims, tires, lights, big brake kits, custom fabrication and the skills and knowledge to answer questions about them all! Joking aside, if your ever in the KC area, look them up.

Be sure to post improvements, better yet, burnout and donut videos. And maybe a few 0-60 launches.

Been almost a week since I had my 23 4Runner tuned. Nothing but positive things to say. I also had my 09 Tacoma tuned several months ago with the same results. Biggest changes have been improved throttle response, transmission gear selection and reduced gear hunting. My 4Runner is stock while my Tacoma is modified. It has 4.56 gears paired with 285/70-17, cam gears, intake manifold spacer, 70mm throttle body and AFE CAI. The tune on it basically took all my mods and made it to where they were working together. Dollar for dollar, I believe the tune to have been the best mod. Re-gear being a close second.

I have a 2016 and wonder how close you are to unlocking the transmission tuning?

Did you guys ever dyno test the anderson manifold spacer on a t4r? Or any other mods for that matter.

We have not received one to test. Should we get one, we’ll provide the results.

@JustDSM Just checking in to see where the transmission tuning is for this range of 4Runners, any updates?

Does OTT tune for smaller pulleys on the Magnuson too? I live at high elevation (9000 feet) and would want to run a smaller 2" pulley if I get a supercharger. From researching this, my elevation would result in me stressing my supercharged engine with the stock pulley (2.35") about the same as a NA truck on the coast! :frustrated: Here's a table I got from Sniv Speed Shop that shows how the air pressure changes with the altitude. I saw that I'd need a fuel pump too with a smaller pulley, so I'm planning for that as well. Any ideas on how much boost is "too much" boost for the engine and supercharger too? Just so I have an idea on how careful I need to be when driving down to lower elevations.

Yes, not a problem for us.

We do need you to upgrade your fuel pump at minimum though, if not already done.

Great! Any comments on what a safe, reliable boost level would be to keep it at? For example, I would drive pretty frequently between where I live and 4000ish feet and at that point, I would be making the equivalent of 7.9 psi of a boosted car on the coast. Would that be damaging to my engine?

Your boost pressure is a primarily determined by your pulley combination, with altitude, induction/exhaust restriction and other variables also having a hand at deriving your final pressure. I wouldn't focus too much on the "boost number", as the ECU really only cares about airmass, and that's what is used to determine fueling.

With our calibration, you'll be fine to run between those altitudes and lower elevations as needed, as long as you have a fuel system to handle the fuel demands. We'll advise you of any potential shortfalls during the tuning process.

Would an adjustable fuel pressure regulator be needed for the upgraded fuel pump too?
