New to the 4runner world. Both neighbor and I had other make vehicle catalytic converter stolen in the past. Looking to see if new 6th gen is susceptible to being stolen and if there's recommend cat shield brands. Or did Toyota design it better to deter theft.

    Thanks!

I would assume any cat could be stolen. I have a 22 4R and got Cali Raised cat shields. Very easy to install

welcome. agree that pretty much any can be taken. Shields will be a deterrent and take someone longer. And they will add some protection from rocks off roading , etc

I told you about the CALI Raised. They are good, I am happy with them BUT I and others here have complained to Cali Raised about the cut edges of the shields. RAZOR sharp. Not even joking when I tell you, wear leather gloves.

Insurance broker here. Even if Toyota has a better design, I would still install a shield if they are even remotely visible. We have seen claims or attempted cat theft's where they made a mess trying to get them out. No would be thief would waste his time once he sees a shield/skid.

Now connect a 12v lead to it, for the ultimate theft deterrent. Just don't forget about it when you service your truck

Naw, why end up with a dead battery from a thief who couldn’t let go :D

Thinking of using my welding skills and do something like this…upload_2025-4-16_7-34-10.jpg

I went with cat security. Nice looking shield. Easy install. Had bad past experience with cali raised. Would not recommend them.

for the 6G, they moved the cats way up into body. there is a pic on the 6g forums where it shows they shoved them pretty far up to where its a pita to get to now.

I am in SoCal. At my work, daylight cat thefts were common. I installed a Miller Cat shield a few years ago. Acts like a lightweight tranny skid. New version has slimmer design.
Offered in stainless and Aluminum. I chose aluminum. The stainless model with some DIY inside cross bracing would be very strong.

I bought and installed a set of Cali-Raised cat shields on my 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD. I am very happy with them, gives me some piece of mind.

Yes the edges are sharp, so be careful. I tried to stay alert to this fact and I did manage to accomplish the installation without wearing gloves and did not cut myself.

IIRC, the kit was labeled specific to fit 4WD 4Runners only. If you have a 2WD, check with Cali-Raised to see if they make a kit for 2WD. I have no idea what the difference may be.

cant really compare a 5th gen to how the 6th gen are setup, so the above posts is kind of off topic to the discussion.
