Speaking as the father of four daughters, one of which remains in college, this deserves its own thread. I’m impressed with her boldness. I also think Rav4s are great!

Ah the humor of children. Gotta love it. Right?

I hope you countered the point "Well, you are right. HOWEVER....it was MY money to begin with so I will do exactly what I want with it."

That's pretty cool. I'd be tempted to give my 4R to my daughter if she'd have saved me that much in tuition. Luckily the car is paid for and there's enough in her account to cover tuition but dang that'd be sweet.

The PhD is paid for by the University and she gets a stipend to live on. She also graduates in May, Summa cum laude, with majors in Bio Chemistry, Math, and a minor in Spanish . So happy she got her intelligence from her mom and not me.

Congrats to both of you! She'll fit right in AZ with a 4Runner. Tons of them there. But wait, does she know how hot it gets there? My 1st 57 years were in AZ. I don't miss it! Good luck to her on the PhD!

With two grown daughters to base this on..............give her her 4Runner (irrefutable logic if you were 20 something.....Pops), or don't. Either way, she'll be terrific. Mom may get the tip of the hat on the smarts, but a $ buck fifty says the "after all, it was my money" argument came from your gene pool. Ironic she paid attention to your parenting after all, isn't it?

Put new hood struts on my 2011. The old ones were getting weak. I got some from Amazon they work great. Took about 5 minutes to install.

    hah! that’s funny
dude I had a dream on the weekend that shit was rattling really bad under the truck, random people were making fun of me and shit. So I had to get under there and I had almost lost a skid plate because my damn bolts stripped out and I did the same thing I woke up and I was like oh my God it was a dream it was all a bad dream.

    * Joe Rogan made a good point about dreams actually, suggesting do we really know where we go in our dreams do we actually go to another dimension, why does no one care that we just completely shut off and go off-line for eight hours at a time?
** for example, why do you often immediately wake up out of a seemingly deep sleep when you almost die, or are about to get injured, or you’re falling.. what’s really happening.

First, congrats on raising an amazing person!

I had a similar conversation with my son before he started his PhD, only over my 1981 BJ42-T. That is how I ended up on this forum . I did give him the Land Cruiser. It took me 2 years to find a good replacement in my 2019 4Runner. It is slowly getting built up for the trail. We take them both out each year to the Lone Star Land Cruiser Round Up in Mason, TX. For me, his achievements were worth the sacrifice.

Ultimately it worked out for both of us, he got the cool factor rig and I got something comfortable and modern. Wheeling they are comparable.

Yeah, she was down to North Carolina or University of Arizona, I gave her the pros and cons. Arizona, all beach no ocean, more things that can kill you, so much hotter, farther from home, she still picked Arizona. I would take August heat/no humidity in Arizona over August heat/ 95% humidity in the southern area of The People's Republic of Illinois.
