I just purchased a 2006 Sport and the guy that owned it before me hydrodipped (I think that’s what it’s called) the dash and console plastic bezels. They were the stock silver and are now a gloss black and blue swirl, not my thing. It looks pretty straightforward to remove and repaint, I’m going with satin black to match most of the rest of the dash, and probably a paint made for plastic or I have some satin black bumper paint that seems to be very durable, does anyone have recommendations on the type of paint to use?

go to oreillys or another parts store. I saw they have paint specifically for dashes and trim. I would probably go with that.

If you want to do it the professional way get a paint shop to mix up SEM Color Coat for you. You'll probably need to provide them with another piece of interior trim to match the color. For best results remove the parts you're painting from the vehicle, wash with simple green then soap and water and finally with SEM prep. Scuff lightly with a grey pad, then wipe with tack cloth. You can use Bulldog adhesion promoter if you want.

SEM Trim is for exterior pieces. I just used it last week. Good stuff but for a dashboard you want a vinyl/plastic dye

I have it on my Tundra dash pieces and it's perfect.

I just realized that was a "before" picture. This is the after.

As to using it inside, I guess if it works it works. I just saw a friend use a very light spray of black rustoleum on some red door cards to make them burgundy and it came out alright. There's just so much effort associated with painting anything, personally I would use the prescribed product. Driving to a dedicated paint shop is like 1/10th of your overall effort if you're doing it right.

I have the SEM bumper coater and it worked great - it has the adhesion promoter built in, but I think it’s formulated for flexible surfaces. I’ll look for the trim paint. I mean, it’s a 20 year old car with 200k miles, and I’m doing some other budget upgrades, but I want to do a good quality job.
