Electricity has gone up about the same as that here too. Recently the natural gas providers wanted in on the action too so that also doubled. Also my water bill is about 4 times what it used to be. Throw in the cell phone and cable/internet bill and it ends up being a huge part of our income. It’s insane.

Of course everyone wants a "Limited".

Probably costs Toyota 1k or 2 in extra parts cost compared to a base 32k AWD LE.

This is the part where the country is diverging. My extended family in the midwest has a lot of family members who were laid off from offshored manufacturing plants over the last 40 years or so, a number of them are working multiple jobs and barely getting by on sub-10k used cars when they need a new car.

Imagine the outpouring of sympathy they would have if 60k 4Runner buyers have to pay another 10k in tariffs.

Is that just a limited issue? There seems to be tons of the other models of RAV4 available, at least around here.

It's just a Limited issue. All the Limited/Pro/etc top trims are sold out while SR5, LE, XLE and such languish on dealer lots across all Toyota models.

In my area 30k Rav4s (before negotiation) are sitting for months with no takers while Limiteds all show as "in transit" meaning a deposit is on them.

There are hundreds of Rav4s in inventory but the Limited models are practically sold out everywhere you check for.
Also, in case you didnt hear the news, the F150 was toppled as the highest volume seller in the country last year. If you didnt already know i hope this comes as a shock but Toyota stole the #1 seller spot last year and took down the 40 year reign of the F150 with....... :drumroll: the Rav4. The Rav4 was the highest volume seller last year 2024. While i absolutely despise them, there are people that love them.

My mom has had 3, and we just secured her 4th
My dad has had 2, oddly enough they like them so much they both had identical silver ones for almost two years.
    My sister has one
I have an aunt and cousin each with one
    They are quite popular.

Yes, i would bet there are 1000 on lots within 500 miles of me, probably more.
BUT no Limited models. People are paying almost +$10,000 higher for a Limited than they could get an LE for but the Limiteds are impossible to find because they are selling before they hit the lots. The one in Tulsa has almost $5,000 of mark up on top of the $40,898 sticker which brought it to right at $46,000 which i think is why it hasnt sold. Something about dash cam and window tint and something else. The dealers are stacking on additions to create "fluff" to make more money.

I'm not surprised, the Rav4 is draw a lot of ex Camry buyers who now have bad hips and can't sit down into and get out of a sedan anymore. It's the new Buick LeSabre. My parents bought one ten years ago when my dad starting having hip problems and had to give up his Camry. I like its short(at the time) wheelbase for ease of parking but the ride and handling are just meh for me.

My sisters is a 2013 with like 200,000 miles and its in such bad shape. She brings it over occasionally for me to listen to the newest noise or try to find the newest clunk or shake. I hate driving it cause it feels so cheap and the interior noise is so loud. You can feel the tires on the road vibrating the floorboard and gas pedal. Its not much better than an old go-cart with no suspension. Sure its still running but she is a single mom and neglects it until she hears something and then continues to neglect it after the noise isnt apparent anymore. Because of that and the lack of maintenance its about to fall apart. I mean i guess you can say its still running, because it is, but i really dislike driving it.

2013 was I think the first year they REALLY started gutting sturdiness on Rav4s, prior to that the 2012 and older ones were built with many interior parts shared from say the 4Runner and 9th gen corollas. Even the tailgate was side opening until 2012. My parents' is a 2012 model year and while it rides rough and road noise is not great, but for the most part still drives okay, even when brand new it rode like it had 100k miles on the shocks even with high sidewall tires.

But it is a time capsule, 4 speed auto. pulled hand brake, and a real hoot to throw around on dirt roads.

    2013 and later...different animal altogether.

Weird. What’s so special about the limited that the model below it doesn’t have?

What buyers now deem as necessary comfort and tech features that they didn't know they needed until their best friend/neighbor/co-worker told them about.

I bought my F150 in January of 2024, inventory was thin and all 2023 models. The 2024 models were delayed for about 3 months. Nothing against the RAV4, we have one of those too, but that delay was a big reason the F150 missed retaining the crown by around 10k units.

Q1 F150 sales for last three years:
    2023 166k
    2024 145k
    2025 190k

    Q2 2024 was also down 17k units vs. 2023.

I ain’t gotta tell you where the price of beloved electricity, and evil natural gas, will be by 2035.
BC will never let any of ya’ll be more expensive than us :p
(and we cut the cable just to afford internet that’s well over $100/month)

I'm sure Governor Newsom of California will negotiate a fantastic trade deal directly with China and the EU as soon as he runs for the white house, it will definitely make things better then for everyone.

Oh my gosh yes the taxes I feel for you guys in BC and Canada. Wow PST, GST then I was paying some damn liquor tax on drinks at a restaurant. I would need a a second part time job to pay the taxes. But it’s beautiful there no doubt about it.

funny, my daughter went from a rav4 xle to a compass then went back to a rav4 xle. the rav4 was a downgrade from the compass feature wise but overall the rav4 was a better long term solution.

son went from a camry xse to a hyundai santa fe to a rav4 xle prem. the santa fe was turning into shit show with the amount of weird noises after 3 yrs. he was happy to get back into a toyota and happy with the rav4

It probably ends up being similar to here since you don’t have to pay for health insurance. We get screwed by the insurance companies you get screwed with more taxes.

We actually do have to pay for healthcare and health insurance. Happy go lucky free Canadian healthcare is a misconception. Nothing is free. Insurance companies across the board bend Canadians over alike. Of course I understand your point, and the fact that I can go see a doctor for free, but there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors and shiny keys. ..Ask Canadians about medical wait times as well.

    *let me add
Very real possibility I could die waiting for the free insurance care.

So they offer you assisted dying. Now I hear that and fentanyl are like the #2 cause of death in canada.

Initial primary care may be “free” but secondary, allied, and specialized care is not.

Emergency room wait times are out of control.

    Ambulance transport isn’t free.

    Prescriptions aren’t free.

Self employed and unemployed people do not quality for extended health benefits.

I have to obtain and keep a full time job and then pass 3 months probation to qualify for extended health; often, only if the employer pays into it as well.

But I digress. Sorry folks, very off topic here.

Ok. I guess you are getting screwed more than us then. That’s something to look forward to when you become our 51st state.

There is no free lunch. Ask anyone from the UK how their NHS works for anything more than a routine check up and cold medication.

The goal should be to get people to live healthier, longer lives but at this point in time in the western world we can't even say someone is fat without being accused of body shaming.

I don't think that is true. The Rav4 is third, behind the F150 and Chevy Silverado. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g60385784/bestselling-cars-2024/

Oh my gosh those taxes are worse than what I thought. I’ll just visit and pay taxes when I visit. Leave some salmon for me when I come up :). The fishing was great up in Campbell River back in the day. I wish he was still around I’d love to drive my 4R out there and be able to take him on a long road trip. Enjoy fellas enjoy taxes or not we can’t take the money with us and we only live once

note that this ranking uses figure from "F-Series" and "Silverado" which includes F250/2500 and up 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups. Not sure if it includes chassis cabs as well.
