Yea, non JBL system. NVX worked well, there are a lot of very similar options. The listed power for the amp is pretty conservative and it does just fine. No DSP yet.

Yuuuup! I think once you start you realize the truck is stronger than your will haha
    It’ll live…

You gotta wash that BMC all the time now…I’d do anything to see my entire undercarriage look that fresh!

with the weather warming up, it’s time to finally take care of it n get it ready for rust protection in the fall for the 1st time

    side note:
Never seen anyone clean the bottom before applying the usual candidates(FFilm, WWax, buster…) as in grind/sand away surface rust n then wash it…thoughts?

A few months into ownership of my 23, I just ran it through the car wash (which also did undercarriage), and let it dry for a day before applying WaxOyl Hardwax Plus to my frame. A year later, and probably 6-8 full car washes, it still looks and feels the same (ever so slightly tacky) as when I applied it. Unless you have noticable rust you should be ok.

Posting this for the search history...

Had my wheels and tires installed Tuesday and the next day when I drove it on the freeway, I had a lot of vibration in the steering wheel around 50-65mph. Having read the horror stories, I was readying myself for multiple trips, possibly multiple shops to get this dialed in.

Sent a note to the shop who did the install. They made room for me that day to do a re-balance. I picked it up last night, drove it 130 miles today and had zero vibration. Nice.

8,000? That must be a typo. Surely you aren't driving 8k miles. That would mean you'd drive 166MPH nonstop for 48hrs.

Just got done installing the new speakers, they sound great to me. New on the left, OEM one on the right, center portion was all sloppy and rattling around along with the other edge too.

Removed the failed alternator following this Girlie Garage video. The tight confines were frustrating. Every fastener, wire clip, and electrical connector required a different tool. With the alternator removed, I was able to see a timing cover leak in the area. With no good access to degrease and apply sealer, I decided to leave it.

    AP1GczMuHT9mfuTuKDmIDvVmjCskgxolbarlykiB_02b28ece4a9057ab2f00b2f56287cf14cdaad50f.jpg AP1GczMA3sw4irkK-0Q6he82aPDhHTgiHOo7shlm_439d5a6442e2a74baa5b6986f4dceb496d8afea6.jpg

Brackets moved over to the reman alternator, Superior (BBB) P/N 11514, the only decent one I could get locally in a day.

    AP1GczPD4Vi3ZE8npabPwQdRf4SvBUMIksghMzFt_489bfcb2373b6b8c89113aa4c13d741b24455e78.jpg

Installation was slightly easier than removal. Also put in a new Motomaster 640 CCA group 35 AGM battery, because I pretend this is a serious off-road rig that'll see steep angles. Couldn't trust the old Kirkland battery after it had been so severely discharged following the alternator failure. Unplanned upgrade!

    AP1GczPct2N_6jLgUg0lAt6gfg7RsFrYnM8RVWNb_9a2338a4a3a76961413f00ad613f1d33ba536d17.jpg AP1GczPpXlA3BPdw7A1cKRva-i6jXgro2Qpt1IPv_1bed57bf459c3aa2b97af0d4273e7b7f179a3c18.jpg

Next on the to-do list is the GM diode mod to raise the charging voltage. I think I can wire up something with two fuse taps to retain the ALT-S fuse.

^162k. Not sure if age (15 years) or mileage killed it. The alternator looked pretty rusty inside, though the pulley still spun OK.

Alternator died unexpectedly on my 3rd Gen at 15 years of age as well. Only difference was mileage (just shy of 350K) so considering the mileage alone it wasn’t a surprise that the brushes were shot. Considering that the 5th gen’s have a higher load on the alternator I wouldn’t be surprised if the brushes simply wore out. I’d be curious enough to open your alternator up and see what you find.

Well done! That's a difficult install. Without clicking on that video I know exactly what it is. It was the primary video I used when changed my alternator. And i think the best one on youtube.

    And now I bitch -

These days theres more how to videos than ever which is great on one hand but on the other most videos are made to get likes so we get like what we have with the girlie alternator how to, as well as every other alternator video I could find. ...as well as every video on upgrading shakle hangers on a tacoma.

These are difficult jobs. They take patience and frustration and sometimes luck like with the alternator because you cant see half the stuff you're doing.

The girlie alternator video makes this job look super easy but like with every other video, it cuts and then she describes what she did instead of showing it right as she got to some of the most difficult parts.

People want to out content out there but dont want to take the time to actually show how to do it. She shows most of it and she probably has the best video but still. How she cuts as some difficult parts and explains.....makes me think she spent a couple hours in frustration or had someone helping her.

All the Shackle hanger videos it seems like the people spent all day in frustration and then on video you see only where they looked good but dont really show how they did it. Or when they have to drill out 6 bolts, the show part of one that looked ok while they probably messed up the other 5.

Theyre more interested in looking like they knew what they're doing than showing how to do it because you'd see them struggle, or have their friend come in from behind the camera and struggle with them.

Anyhow. Sorry for complaining. I really regret not making some how to videos. Especially on the alternator and removing the interior.

No need to apologize. I feel ya.
Aside from making it look easy, they skip some tips or tricks or things they figured out "the hard way".
Or at least tell the parts that were a pain and why.

...^^^... Looking to upgrade my speakers only without a head change or adding any amps, for now.

Cool looking new speakers you bought.

Did you only change the speakers and if so ... how do like them and ... what type and part number?

    Thanks

    Oooh look, another mod.....
If you want to go this route (which is what I did), I recommend you check out Trail Grid Pro. They have a few options for full speaker replacement kits: Sony, Kicker, OEM Plus Audio, Alpine, Focal, etc..

I have the Kicker setup in my 4Runner and love them. They were very cost effective and gave me a lot of bang for my buck. I added an amp though, to max out the bass and increase the volume.
