Anyone else watch this on Amazon prime? Nice to see real world in the bush what a g5 is capable of. The river fjording no snorkel and watching them check air intake each crossing for moisture is nice to see someone else test for me. Long way from help any problems. They have 2 g5's and a taco that don't appear to be built excessively.

That was back when Expedition Overland actually did off-roading and exploring. The show was so much better then. Now they just bolt a ridiculous amount of stuff to their trucks and drive them on streets and dirt roads.

 

I kind of agree. They went full on apeshit for a few years but - they have a new season where Clay and his kids go to Alaska in a LC250 and 2 new Tacomas, and it's pretty okay. Not as much emphasis on gadgets, just kind of a family growth experience over 10,000 miles. I rather liked it.

Clay is okay and seems to have grown as a person so I don't mind him so much as I used to. I would really like to see a XO series headed up by Kurt Williams though, as he seems a great mix of knowledge, skill, humor, and humility.

 

I watched the latest Alaska trip. It was OK but they make it so overly dramatic. It was a family road trip driving alongside 18 wheelers and people commuting to work. Enough with the expedition nonsense, matching clothing, etc. it’s a vacation/camping trip with family and friends.

 

I have to say I have watched a lot of the episodes but it seems the more I watch, I kind of get bored. Lots of good info and things to keep me watching but also a lot of stuff that I don't really care for. Either way, still a fan of what they do.

 

I think that any of us could do the same trips that they have done lately in our rigs.

 

The interest level for me is based on "can I reasonably do this trip?", and for something like Alaska I can (and have). So I feel more engaged seeing stuff I could get to, or places I have been to. When they flew to Africa and sucked off a rhino, or when they bought individual gyrocopters and jerked themselves Homelander-style over the landscape, I lost interest in those seasons. I have to imagine most people feel the same way. Show me shit I can do or dream about doing as an everyman, not some millionaire's outing to Namibia or toys beyond the reach of anyone but a trust fund baby. Ergo I liked the first season or two, when they were still poverty overlanding, and the more recent stuff where they are doing simple trips with family.

The para gliding series was really weird.
The Africa season was also odd. Shipping your trucks halfway across the world to then drive on the roads that the locals use? Why not just rent a truck when you get there or pay for a safari tour.
I did like the South America series. I liked the trip that Toyota World Runners did more though. They went to some amazing places. I’m surprised they don’t have more subscribers.
