    Hello All-

I am new to the group, however, I have read all posts concerning moonroof issues related to 5th generation 4Runner. I was successful at resetting the moonroof by pressing the "UP" position on the tilt button and it went through the motions of opening and closing just fine. However, today, I am back to the clicking sound when trying to open the moonroof or simply trying to tilt it. Has anyone been able to correct this problem without having to remove the headliner or bringing to a dealer? Thanks in advance!

Count yourself lucky that it's stuck in the closed position. There is no easy fix without removing the headliner and pulling/replacing the motor. The plastic gears sound like they're broken or not meshing. I would be tempted to leave it closed and never think about it again due to cost of the gear assembly being $500-$800. https://autoparts.worldtoyota.com/products/product/gear-assy-sliding-r-6326035120 This was the best price I could find with a quick search.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking that something is preventing the roof from opening since it was operational just yesterday, and I heard no
grinding or any other noises when the roof was working.

I guess it's possible. Still needs to be pulled apart to determine if that's the case. Which involves removing the headliner.
