Yeah, I love Discount Tire but they have developed a bad habit the last couple of years of trying to upsell additional crap you didn't go in for.

Too many to list & Worth every penny!
    That’s really bad.

Even though I trust the tech that works on my T4R, I still verify before I leave the dealership.

Using the well learned “trust but verify” method!

thats why i keep a list of all maintanence I do down to tread depth of tires on my car so i can ram it down their throat when they make shit up. Had 1 Toyota dealership tell me I needed an oil change because it was really dark. I said, oh yeah? Pulled out my notes and told him I changed it 5 mo’s ago and only put 1900 miles on it and to show me how “dark” it was, gave some excuse about told being unable to come back to the shop area due to liability. I told him that’s fine, We can wait till my car comes out and I’ll do it in the parking lot on a paper towel. 45 minutes later after I’ve been waiting two hours my car finally comes out and nothing was said to me, so I walked the service manager out to the car and did it right in front of him and all he did was rub his shoulders cause he knew it was BS. I filed a complaint and never went back or heard from that dealership again. Btw - oil looked like i just pured it out of the bottle.

One time when I was in just for an oil change (explicitly said do not do any free multi-point inspection), they called me about 45 minutes later and said my engine air filter was one of the worst they had seen and it had to be changed ASAP. I said what brand is it? "Uhh, what do you mean? Its a factory filter." I said that's nice, put that back wherever you found it as the one in my truck is a WIX.

I did the threaded rod skid plate Mod that "Saker" came up with. Makes dropping the front skid super easy.

I didn't want to be left out the post gas prces game. Good or bad, doesn't matter. The TuRD needs to drink. Just wish "flyover" country had better octane. I miss the old 94 days.

    Understatement of the century

    side note:
PA is kinda like Doc from BTTF…”where we’re going, we don’t need roads…”-yeah cause it’s Pennsylvania, where roads=737492846 potholes strung together by loose tar

I live in The People's Republic of Illinois where the current price for gas is $3.48, luckily I'm only 10 minutes from Costco where I can get it for $2.64.

Experiences like that make me want to avoid the dealership for the “free” services. I’m supposed to go for my first one soon but I’m hesitant.

I'm sure. I don't know how anyone can live out there! It's a beautiful state but the High cost of living, taxes, crime & I'm NOT going into the Political conversation because I don't want to be banned & that's all I'm gonna say on that subject.

These guys should be arrested for this shit. They are as bad as internet scammers. Taking advantage of all the people that don’t know about car maintenance is so scummy.

Jobs and family are main reasons. We’d like to move out of CA and exploring that option.

    That's a big difference!
In Phoenix there's only a 20-40 cents difference between the average gas station and costco gas

It was the same situation that my Wife & I were in. We had great jobs that we eventually retired from.
I was born & raised in SoCal. (never say Cali) and my Wife was born in MT., so I do know what you are talking about.
And we moved to MT so we could keep those retirement buck$.
But, I do still miss family (hers), the diversity of food and the off-highway challenges and scenery that were the mountains & desert regions near our old home. And not to say that MT. doesn't have its own challenges but, I still miss it.

OEM TRD Pro grill installed now that the weather has warmed up. Compared to the Cartrimhome pro grill I had on my last 4Runner, the fit and finish of the genuine Toyota part is night and day better.

I also decided to not do the free maintenance with the dealer and do my own oil, filters, and rotations.

All stealerships seem to do it. Took my wife’s Outback in for an oil change and the service advisor knew me and said no inspection needed. About 30 minutes later this kid mechanic comes into the waiting room looking for me with a disgusting air filter in his hand. Tried to claim that was from her car, nice try buddy. Hers is a Wix also and that isn’t it, try that crap on someone else. Needless to say the rest of the waiting room then realized “hey, are they cheating me?” I even saw the service advisor laugh at the kid heading back into the bay. Luckily I confirmed they did actually swap the filter and not just the oil on her car. Despite back issues I am going to take over oil changes for her ride and mine.

fraud and deceptive practices. Sounds like more people should file suits against the dealership and the tech. Maybe that will eventually stop this BS

I very publicly brought it up with the service advisor who apologized and said he would bring it up with management. To their credit I did receive an email from the dealership apologizing for the “confusion” regarding my wife’s car. They have never tried that again with me though I’m not sure they changed their bad ways or just flagged my account.

I'm just jerk enough to write my initials and the date of change on my filters with a Sharpie. I'm about this far from 3D printing a stencil so I can spray paint it on there.
"That filter came out of my vehicle, did it, buddy?" :D
