Has anyone here (real person on this forum) actually taken delivery of a new 6th gen???

That sucks. What did you get to as a replacement vehicle?

 

I'm just driving my audi A4 right now. I'm nearing 90,000 trouble free miles on it. Routine from the book fluids, tires, brakes is all I've done to it.

Haven't bought anything else yet. Still trying to decide if Toyota can get their stuff together. I also tried a 22 tundra. Same thing with it. It was a hybrid so the engine wasn't "safety" recalled, but same engine same problem. The dirty secret is they're not replacing those hoping they make it past warranty to wash their hands. (hybrid can technically limp to side of the road, so it's not under the recall). Tundra also suffered with coolant in the oil as well as engine failure.

The only times I've ever had to use an attorney was for my will and other financial docs. Toyota is giving him a workout and bought him a nice boat though.

I've had a Toyota in my garage for 23 years, this is the first year without one. Hard habit to break I guess.

 

I like the new Tundras but don’t want anything to do with that ticking time bomb of an engine. Only a fool would keep one of those once the warranty expires. Even then who wants to deal with the hassle of an engine replacement, loaner car, etc.

Agreed, you buy a Toyota to spend as little to no time at a dealer as possible. I take really good care of my stuff too, I'm blessed to have a nice big garage. Always do maintenance by the book or sooner. I follow recommendations for OCI by the care care nut too.

I went and looked at the 4runner, looks just like the taco inside except instead of a bed you have a cargo area, so I had a little bit of cringe moment.

The big difference is the 4r and LC are made in Japan. Back in 2014 I had a 4runner and you could tell it was built better and higher quality materials from Japan than the TX/MX built units.

I may wait to see what Toyota has in store next year for the 26 tundra too, or a 2nd year 4r.

 

15% fuel on 2nd oil change? Holy mole.

I know some forced induction engines have fuel dilution issues and it's not uncommon but that's....high especially for what constitutes very ideal driving pattern? i hope that was a fluke for an engine that has been in use by various models for 4-5 years.

 

Let me see if I can scare up the blackstone oil report; ever since they introduced AI to everything, everything sucks including my email search! The flash point of the oil was nearing ~220F or darn near the boiling point of water (or the operating temp of oil) and the viscosity was in the 5-8 weight range (vs bottle oil at 20 weight).

I will say the nice thing I liked about the taco was the engine didn't stop when you remote start and open the door! @4Runner757 is that the case with the 2025 4runner?

It’s already happening. Mine looked the same at 5k miles. 10k was when my engine had massive fuel dilution on the taco. Maybe I’ll get one at mid cycle refresh.

 

You’re always going to have some fuel in the oil. How much is too much? Nobody knows.

 

The difference between a flammable fuel (gasoline) and a combustable fuel (diesel) is the flash point. When your oil flash point hits that of the design spec operating oil temperature, the oil becomes flammable. That's how much is too much, so somebody knows

 

Have you heard of anyone’s engine exploding because of too much gas in the oil? I have not.
I have never had my oil tested so I have no idea how much gas has gotten into it. The only concern I would have with it is if the oil diluted too much then it may cause bearing issues. Maybe that’s the issue with the Tundra engines seizing up.

Well I’ve never had an engine failure in any vehicle, motorcycle, boat or yard equipment I have ever owned so it’s not exactly something I’m going to lose sleep over.

 

Faxmonkey is from the alternate universe where Honda 1.5T’s are exploding across the northern US and Canada.

 

Does 15% fuel mean that 15% of the total volume in the crankcase was fuel? If so, that means there was almost a whole extra quart of fluid in there, and the dipstick would reflect that. Unless the truck also consumed almost a quart of oil in that 5000 miles.

 

For this price it’s criminal that Toyota doesn’t include dual zone automatic climate control. I wonder if the Canadian version is different?

 

Im selling mine soon and buying 6th gen.
