Not worth it imo, I've never had a Toyota that would have made it worthwhile

Here's the thing, say family needs change or you move or have a bad knee or something, that extended warranty can be a selling point. Not only does the buyer have the opportunity to take that over without any charge, but it also indicates that the owner intended to take care of the car. There's a lot of people, including some people on here, who are quite proud that they're not doing the best maintenance on the vehicle. So I can make a difference.

The infotainment unit with navigation alone is worth the entire premium.

A parasitic draw problem can run hundreds just for the diagnosis... A low battery can screw up computers... The manual 4WD adjustment or even the solenoid switching system needing to be broken free is near 50% of the premium.

We are talking about a 4Runner and not a Grand Cherokee or Range Rover here, aren't we? I hear less talk of extended warranty on Ford and Dodge forums.

Has that ever been a factor on people paying stupid money for a used 4Runner?

In the high competition of the Southern California region, I've been successful getting better than average money selling old cars with great service records, complete upfront disclosure in my ads (no surprises, no disappointments) and a couple years left on warranties for a car or two.

Add in a V6 and none of that shiny black shit¹ around the wheels and the 4Runner is gaining on its blue book...

¹ They are Toyota's modern wear indicators to see if you've been off-roading and voiding your warranty, no doubt. Hahaha.

Isn't toyota's extended warranty only transferrable between private parties, or are you not officially a used car dealer?

I'm not a dealer, I have a family and we all have grown and changed in our automotive needs. I've helped friends buy and sell cars too.

Transferable one time to the next owner. Also someone a few comments back made it sound like the 10 year/ 100K mile VSA and the factory 3 year bumper to bumper warranty cover the same things. They don’t. For example if you have paint chipping and rust under your rear hatch garnish… you need to get that fixed before the factory warranty expires. The factory 3 year covers just about everything. The VSA details in writing what is covered and paint body trim etc are excluded.

Funny enough, I was kind of skeptical too. "Eh, it's a Toyota... I don't need a VSC plan." Right before the factory warranty on the 4Runner and our Tacoma were both up, I contacted Jerry to purchase the Platinum for both.

Fast forward to this week, and I discovered that I need to have my head unit replaced. I believe it will have already paid for itself.

These new vehicles have a lot of electronics that cause a lot of other parts to be calibrated, replaced, etc. I wasn't taking any chances.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Yep it all the electrical and safety bs. My boss gets in my 2005 Accord and says do you have lane detection assist or back up assist? I said yep it works flawlessly. I turned my head back to look out the rear and side to side and said all clear! No warranty repair needed on this. We’ve done overboard with some of this stuff. People are just getting lazy

So let me get this straight, the guy that was selling the after sale Toyota warranty for a good price can no longer give anyone a deal due to someone dropping a dime to Toyota Corporate?

The western states have some sort of a block. Complaints were made, people were notified and things were cited. I learned this talking to somebody who is in this business currently in West Texas. Because Jerry Johnson wasn't calling me back, I talked to my neighbor and mentioned it. He had me call his brother at a dealership in Texas. I wasn't given too many more details, but I was told specifically that somebody carried on and created a problem by arguing.

If you're on the west coast, have a friend in another state receive your mail for you.

By the way, this is not an extended warranty, it is an insurance policy. It's handled differently than a traditional extended warranty.

When I was at the dealership going through the finance office session, all I said to the guy was give me your absolute best price. Make it a price I cannot refuse. On my '23 Off-Road Premium, he started at $4,300 or $4,700 and came down to something like $3,400. I didn't whine or complain, I just asked him for his best price. When he dropped the price, I did point out that he didn't give me his best price the first time it was more of a pointing out as opposed to an argument.

I do that with a lot of salesmen. "What is your best price out-the-door?" I also like to say "Put your best foot forward." Younger sales people don't know what the hell I mean. Thing is, sometimes they don't want the business that much. They would rather hit grand slams at every at bat and if the bases aren't full, they don't even want to swing.

Oh well, I do have some solutions available to me. I've also contacted numerous dealers in California for my upcoming purchase and I do see some dealerships discount more than others.

As for the person who whined and complained and confronted.... I guess it's just somebody who felt entitled or didn't understand that somebody in the middle of a low-populated state with lower housing costs doesn't have to charge as much to make a nice living compared to somebody who might be living in a big city where rent and insurance and food are all more expensive. That lack of critical thinking is a big part of what's going on today in society. That's how news organizations can avoid things and people are no wiser to the situation nor do they express interest in finding out the truth. They would rather scream and shout about fake crap because somebody else told them to.

There is a major disconnect between what prices are out west (not just California) vs the Midwest and East Coast. It’s really ashame but those markets can apparently bear the higher costs because people must be paying them otherwise the vehicles would sit on the lot.

Well, whoever it was didn’t do the rest of us any favors! Out here in California, we already get taxed and pay more for gas than almost every other state. I don’t think our cost of living justifies any entitlement, just trying to save money. My dealer quoted me$3500 for that policy.

According to some guys on the tundra forum and also a FB group it's only affecting people in California. Until someone actually hears from Jerry nothing is confirmed.

So our friend is no longer selling these vsa's in any state? Why would someone want to go to their local person to try to force them to match. I don't understand why would someone be to inefficient to go online and just purchase the item there. That's like going to a store and saying that they have to match an online price. It only takes a few minutes to send an email and a few more minutes for a phone call. Now I am ruined as I wanted to get a Grand Highlander as a second car and now I won't be able to get the plan. Some people just don't have common sense and I am trying to be nice with the words that I am writing.

I am glad I purchased a platinum "extended warranty" when I got my new 2017 SR5.
I got it thinking of electronic features & gizmos, But my tranny needed replacing just past the powertrain 5 yr warranty expiration at 48,000 miles. Long story but the Flexlock Torque Converter solenoid & valve (inside tranny valve body) failed resulting in shuddering from the TC when driving at light throttle in "D" at around 30-40' mph. Billing dealer to Toyota was $8,000.
