Not worth it imo, I've never had a Toyota that would have made it worthwhile

Here's the thing, say family needs change or you move or have a bad knee or something, that extended warranty can be a selling point. Not only does the buyer have the opportunity to take that over without any charge, but it also indicates that the owner intended to take care of the car. There's a lot of people, including some people on here, who are quite proud that they're not doing the best maintenance on the vehicle. So I can make a difference.

The infotainment unit with navigation alone is worth the entire premium.

A parasitic draw problem can run hundreds just for the diagnosis... A low battery can screw up computers... The manual 4WD adjustment or even the solenoid switching system needing to be broken free is near 50% of the premium.

We are talking about a 4Runner and not a Grand Cherokee or Range Rover here, aren't we? I hear less talk of extended warranty on Ford and Dodge forums.

Has that ever been a factor on people paying stupid money for a used 4Runner?

In the high competition of the Southern California region, I've been successful getting better than average money selling old cars with great service records, complete upfront disclosure in my ads (no surprises, no disappointments) and a couple years left on warranties for a car or two.

Add in a V6 and none of that shiny black shit¹ around the wheels and the 4Runner is gaining on its blue book...

¹ They are Toyota's modern wear indicators to see if you've been off-roading and voiding your warranty, no doubt. Hahaha.

Isn't toyota's extended warranty only transferrable between private parties, or are you not officially a used car dealer?

I'm not a dealer, I have a family and we all have grown and changed in our automotive needs. I've helped friends buy and sell cars too.

Transferable one time to the next owner. Also someone a few comments back made it sound like the 10 year/ 100K mile VSA and the factory 3 year bumper to bumper warranty cover the same things. They don’t. For example if you have paint chipping and rust under your rear hatch garnish… you need to get that fixed before the factory warranty expires. The factory 3 year covers just about everything. The VSA details in writing what is covered and paint body trim etc are excluded.

Funny enough, I was kind of skeptical too. "Eh, it's a Toyota... I don't need a VSC plan." Right before the factory warranty on the 4Runner and our Tacoma were both up, I contacted Jerry to purchase the Platinum for both.

Fast forward to this week, and I discovered that I need to have my head unit replaced. I believe it will have already paid for itself.

These new vehicles have a lot of electronics that cause a lot of other parts to be calibrated, replaced, etc. I wasn't taking any chances.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Yep it all the electrical and safety bs. My boss gets in my 2005 Accord and says do you have lane detection assist or back up assist? I said yep it works flawlessly. I turned my head back to look out the rear and side to side and said all clear! No warranty repair needed on this. We’ve done overboard with some of this stuff. People are just getting lazy
