    Good morning,

Does anyone have any experience ordering OEM parts from a dealer? I am having trouble locating part numbers on the web and would like to develop a relationship with a parts department and order from them if it makes sense.

    Thanks,

    C

Yeah. All bad. I've been to several different dealers in the metro Phoenix area, and none of them were pleasant experiences. Their "parts specialists" had either issues finding the part or no willingness to find the part. There's no pride in the way they do their job. I've had good success with https://autoparts.worldtoyota.com/
If I personally couldn't find and order the part, I have been able to call and get the correct number. Their prices have always been reasonable (IMO) as well.

Mine have varied, one saw me waiting at the counter for a while before someone showed up, another went the extra mile to figure out what key to get since I wanted a master without buttons.

I bet you’ll be squinting at the diagram with them for small enough parts. But if you got time, hey why not try?

I have good experience in parts here in Denver CO.

Till date I don't know the part number for wiper blade rubber inserts. I just go to parts dept and buy them every year by saying "can i have wiper blade rubber insters for 2019 runner?".

They didn't have problems looking up dust covers for the headlights.

They also found correct tpms for my 4runner. (But I didn't buy it to proceed with having 5tpms sensors. Total for parts and labor to install and program was over 300bucks. Thought it's a useless mod.)

I always try to go there with the part numbers of what I need. However, they can look them up easier than I can and always do whether I bring the numbers or not. They want to verify I'm getting the right part for the right vehicle.

I have had good luck with several of the online shops associated with far away dealerships. Many times they insist on your VIN to make sure you get what you need. They also seem to have better discounts than local dealerships.

    All the time.
Go to your local dealers parts department and tell him what you need and he will look it up for you and order it.
I now get a 25% discount on MRP being a repeat customer and pick the parts up in a day or two.
It is my preferred way to buy OEM parts and no worry of transit damage etc.

Costco members get a 15% discount on parts, service and whatnot at participating dealers and shops so it may be a factor if you are already a member. (What am I saying, this is a 4Runner owner site )

There are sources for Toyota OEM parts online.

If you have the part number you can even find them on eBay

Never buy from the dealer without checking online availability and price.

Well I am looking to replace the shocks on my 2019 TRD Pro. And while I am in there I was going to replace the hub assemblies. So I am trying to figure out if the OEM Fox shocks are available to purchase and what that part number is and also what the part numbers are for the hubs. Like previously mentioned, I will call the parts department and get the numbers and then order them online. I have not had luck with the service departments at either of the two dealerships in my area so I would not like to give them business.

My local Toyota dealer actually charges MORE than list price on parts!

Needless to say, I never buy anything from them....

Same here, if I walk in and order/buy in person.
If I order online through autoparts.toyota.com and then go pick it up it's much cheaper.

ever thought about going with a better brand like OME, Bilstein, etc? I love my Bilstein set ups on my 2022 and 2011.

Working with dealers is easy as long as you are not expecting them to match online pricing. But having them look up the correct items and then complaining that it is cheaper online is a solid way to burn a bridge. If you are going to the dealer expect to pay MSRP but you should not pay more. I also wouldn't expect them to just give you the part number either after they take the time to look up the correct one.

I have been perfectly happy with the OEM FOX setup. We have 3 pros and the ride and performance in my mind is exceptional. I replaced the Fox shocks on my 2012 Raptor with the newer 2.5" adjustable remote reservoir Fox set and it was fine but never as good as the original. I am sure the Bilsteins are great and I like that they are significantly cheaper but I know what I have in the Fox setup so I feel comfortable sticking with it.
