Just recently my 3rd gen 97’ has been having some issues with the light on the automatic gear shifter.

Itll flicker, go out for a second or two then come back on, it’s the only interior light having an issue.

Should I be concerned or is it just the light dying or did something some how get slightly unplugged or water damaged?

Doesn’t seem like it’s reacting to the road, not every bump knocks the light out ya know.

Sweet that’s a relief, if I don’t fix it right now will it cause any other issues or will it just be the light that dies?

That's hard to say. If it's just a light flickering, you should be fine. But if it ever goes out and you feel your transmission slipping out of gear (your foot is on the peddle and you see the RPM's going up, but you're losing speed) then you have a problem.

I'd gamble that it's just a wire used to display what gear you're in and you should be okay.
