Thank you! Your front sombrero turned out awesome. If I didn’t replace mine with a color-matched pro grille I would’ve gone that route for sure.

IMG_0078.jpg IMG_0077.jpg IMG_0076.jpg I added a winch shut-off switch to my winch wiring circuit. I made a custom bracket to mount. I feel much safer now….

One more thing, depending on your winch and how continuously it's used, you might be close to maxing out that switch.

Yes, I’m aware that this switch has a max continuous load of 300 amps. I have a Warn Evo 10s that can pull 350 amps on a 10k pull but an 8k pull will be just under 300 amps. So, I’m using with the awareness.
That said, what switch would you recommend?

    Cheers,
    Bob

They make good switches. Here is the one I went with, it is surface mount but they make one with an enclosure too

Thanks for sharing. I wish the higher amp rated switch was the same size so it would fit in the custom bracket but it’s a bit larger. So, I’ll have to consider if making a new bracket and getting a new switch is needed for my use case.

The never ending black hole continues…..

    Cheers,

We finally got decent snow in the mountains of SoCal so I installed the Yakima FatCat Evo ski rack.

My baby 4R will finally make its first drive in snow! ❄️

I hope the stock tires do ok…Bridgestone dueler H/T.

Hope is not a plan. There is good reason why many swap out the stock tires. Post back with a report. Good luck!

I have plans on switching out the tires, just need to decide on which one. I’m overthinking it.

I also looked at the small print on my tires and it has “M+S” on it so I’m good. The roads have been plowed and cleared.

I installed a winch a month ago and wired it direct without a switch. Is the fear that a wire gets damaged in an accident and starts a fire? Or it shorts out from rubbing through the insulation and drains the battery? I have a shut off switch but skipped installing it because it seemed that many people just wire it direct. Should I reconsider?

It's a personal decision. A lot of people direct wire them (like mine) and have had no issues.

I don't like the idea of it being hard wired like that but mine has been fine for several years. My personal fears are a severed cable during accident or rubbed through the cable armor, in which case your battery becomes an arc welder. There is also the unlikely case of a runaway winch, where the selinoid gets stuck and doesn't stop pulling.

I have a BSS switch sitting the the garage - probably over a year now. When it warms up I have several things planned (switch, diff breather, other stuff I've bought and forgotten about)

You should think about getting it wrapped in PPF or it'll be a constant maintenance item having to touch it up. I painted the little chrome whiskers in the top section of the grill matte black and one trip on the Coquihalla later and it was already chipping.
