Pedal commander has iffy reviews. I have a 5g and put the banks performance pedal monster on it to help with acceleration lag when towing. I liked the safety features of it vs other pedal modules. To my surprise, the pedal response is very noticeable. No more lag. Works great from a stop and rolling (example - getting up to speed for an interstate). Overall, i am happy with it. I am running it at Sport 50% with a 3500# trailer. Without the trailer, its peppy so i have to be soft on the pedal so i could reduce the levels but it doesn’t bother me. Set and forget is better for my situation

Pedal Pretenders - Move your foot faster for the same effect

Tunes - Better if available and you will actually pick up power unlike a pedal pretender.

False.. lag is still there when you “move your foot faster” and stomp on the pedal. Source - my vehicle and my experience

Had a PC on my 19 for 3 years. I turned it off and simply moved my foot faster and it's like you have it on. The lag is built into the vehicle's software so you aren't removing it with a pedal pretender.

PC electronically changes the input from the pedal. I loved mine and would recommend if you don’t want to spend the money on a tune.

Tunes get you past lag and also fixes 'gear hunting', the PC can't do the latter at all.

I have the OTT on two of my vehicles. My 09 Tacoma and 23 4Runner. My Tacoma has a few performance mods on it, the tune was able to capitalize on those making everything I have done to "gel". My 4Runner being stock was still able to take advantage of the transmission tuning. I can't speak on pedal modifiers since i dont have one, but I can say tuning has more benefits. That's why I went that route.

Yeah you input 5 and it spits out 7. You can dial in 7 with your foot though.

I'm leaning more towards a tune but don't know where to look. Or if anyone could recommend one.

I was thinking OTT as well. Cause I'm running cams and heads with bolt on's.

You would need a custom tune for that.

I don’t know why you’re trying to die on this hill lol. A PC does not make anymore power, and yes, push down further on your pedal and you get more response. But it’s not about having a heavier foot. A PC completely changes the feel and driving experience.

I never said more power. I know it has a ramp to it but again you can do the same with your foot. Jabbing the pedal and tapering off does the same thing. Literally had one and ditched it for that reason and because it was touchy in low speed situations. I gave it to someone one here no charge.

A lot of tunes include throttle mapping which is all a pedal commander does. Id go with OTT, they have good reviews and dyno results on Tacomaworld for the single vvti 1GR.

Nobody else has brought it up, but the URD Ucon is another option if you want a piggyback that can be easily removed. It requires exhaust cam gears to be installed, but it has built in o2 sims for folks running long tube headers, and it also has engine protection in case actual AFR deviates too much from the target. It also has adaptives so once you get your base tune, if you change your exhaust or intake, you can reset the battery and it will relearn based on the air flow demands. It’s a pretty robust ECU, im running one on my supercharged ‘13 tacoma

Yotawerx has very good reviews and are available through authorized shops in many places.

I’m very interested in reviews from people with tunes on the 4th Gen 1GR-FE V6. I’ve seen them for 5th Gens but that’s a different iteration of the engine.

So my pedal commander cost me over 2 grand. I live in Massachusetts, but I was in New Hampshire when my dash light up like a Christmas tree. I had engine failure and multiple codes were tripped. I thought it was a battery or an alternator issue due to the fact that my engine would not turn over. I had it towed to a Toyota dealership in NH and had to wait two weeks for a new ECU. The pedal commander is a complete scam. I had it on my rig for about 10-15k miles. IMG_0374.jpg

For a simple tune with factory engine parts a flash tune is good to go imo. But since you have done a lot of work with engine components you'll need a proper tuning session.

I have heard this story a couple times on the interwebs. Sorry you went on that ride.. sucks when a product that is supposed to make your stuff better actually makes it worse and cost you even more money.
