New tariffs are going to increase the cost of parts. If you get an oil change done at a repair shop expect to pay 15-20% more.

You need to educate yourself on how tariffs work.

Learn to fix my car? Tariff on parts? Won’t the price of the parts increase whether I do the work or have a shop do it?

Im not an economist. I got a B+ in Econ 101 in 1978, if that counts.

    Captain,
I got a question from kindergarten class of '78 here. What the hell was plaid bell bottoms all about?! Secondly, this is 101-101 where we learn that everything you studied in 101 doesn't make you an expert in anything. Please find a seat.

Best to see what the results are in the next 30-60-90 days? My 4Runner is 7 months old and I just underwent my first oil change under warranty. Yes, 1st 5,000 mile oil change! Whatever the increase in costs are for warranty work including oil changes is on Toyota's dime. At least for now anyway. We all may be in for some big surprises!

I think when I took Economics and Statistics in College I knew just as much the last day of class as I did the first!
My Econ Professor at SDSU was Dr. Buck, guy was a total trip. Way out there! I still have the course textbook by Dr. Ralph Milliband some 45 year later. Maybe someday I'll read it again to see if I'd still be confused!

Screw Economics, you mean to say you did not do a 975 mile first oil change to remove all the metal parts from a brand new engine.
Forget price hike for engine parts, your 4 runner is not going to last till the next elections.

    cost of parts increase.
I learn to fix my car as you say.
I still end up paying higher for parts.
So what was the point of learning to fix car in the first plane?

I know how to fix my car. I am having a tough time following that logic.

Hey. Those were experimental times. You can’t judge a whole generation of kids because of a couple of crazy years in junior high! We were just following the lead of the Brady Bunch and the Partridge Family. (seriously, my crowd were all wearing Levi’s Corduroy (no jeans allowed in school) and Hang Ten tee shirts and Adidas ROM. Never owned a pair of plaid pants.)

Apparently I failed to communicate in an effectively sarcastic tone.

Yes, when I say "1st 5,000 mile oil change" I meant under warranty. I paid for the 1,000 mile oil change on my dime.

Did you specifically ask for an oil change? Usually Toyota Care 5k they dont change oil.

Yes, I requested a 5,000 oil change under Toyota Care. +Tire rotation. Didn't cost me a dime
Actually it was about 5,500 mileage. Again, I changed the oil at about 1,000 miles at my cost.

(Yes, I know American-made prices will go up too whether by input prices going up or matching competitor prices going up. Anyways, what’s the over/under on a huge spike of trinkets made in Singapore coming in?)

Probably not as detailed as it could be but shops sometimes mark up parts (most around here don’t install customer-supplied parts) and you’ll also be paying for what the shop charges for labor and it’s a great opportunity to increase that too.

The price increase on 4Runners between 2021 and the 6th gen, clearly it was all due to tariffs. Brilliant!

Americans by and large don't follow logic. Else the small, affordable car segment would not be as dead as it is.
