25 Outback is the same as 24. We have one - a Wilderness. It's a great vehicle, honestly.

Oops, did I mean the upcoming '26 Outback?

And that's a beauty. I'd drive that. I've always loved wagons.

Well, look on the bright side: with the rear end of this thing looking like it has a broom handle shoved up its ass, think of the approach angles could you make on the trails...going backwards!

    With ya on that, ma'am.

    - - - -

I drove a few Outbacks while my sedan was in for service (long-term event, long story, ugh) -- two '22 models, and a '23. I thought the '22 was better looking than the '23, thanks to the increased plastic cladding on the newer one. Big-picture: the '23 was painted Subaru's "Mahogany" color, and hid the added black plastic very well.

Brutal honesty: If I hadn't grabbed this 4Runner when I did, I'd probably be shopping for an Outback now.

It's marked up by 10k but just let it sink in that as we see here, the actual going rate for a gas only ORP is now going to be for about 59k with the usual destination and port installed accessories, since customers cannot opt out of the options and only choose from what regional distributor say you can have.

I think my 23 ORP with most of the options including KDSS and Moonroof but no MTS was about 48k including destination, and I thought it was nuts then. LOL.

I have heard of 5th gen TRD Pros where dealership marked it up by 15k-20k from dealerships I bought vehicles and people still paid for it, some with cash, others financed through their nose for one.

Clearly Toyota heard the message loud and clear, wala! 70k Pros plus markups.

i think mostly to stiffen the panel. curves, bends, etc add rigidity to a panel instead of just having a complete flat panel.

    also lessens panel flex.

how many of you have seen a rear lower quarter panel flex at highway speed being completely flat?

i commonly see a lot of domestic truck lower rear quarter panel having a brace rod to reduce the flex at highway speed.

I test drove a (please contain your laughter) 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander. You should have seen the hood flex at 45mph! Hope they remedied that for forthcoming models.

Yeah, I've seen the truck flex you speak of. Not a quality look for domestic manufacturers.

Love Outbacks, but Subaru lost its mind with its latest inforaiment system. No physical buttons was a deal breaker for me.

    Gripe i have:
my 2008 TRD Sport Tacoma had the hood scoop, zero wobble, flex, wiggle
my 2008 Urban Runner 4R has the hood scoop, zero wobble, flex, wiggle
my 2023 TRD Sport 4R has the hood scoop, LOTS of wobble, flex, wiggles
I did dynamat under the hood trying to stiffen it up, to keep it from flexing and wiggling at speeds with no luck. It starts around 40mph, the faster you go the worse it gets. The two corners of the hood scoop towards the back of the hood closer to the windshield, the panel flexes and wobbles and the hood scoop flexes up and down. Total absolute BS if you ask me. I've thought about taking it to a paintless dent repair man and let them rub some magic on it with their rods to stretch the metal and shrink it back down in those corners to stiffen the metal but i havent done it yet. Its my wifes daily so it only bothers me about once every few months when i drive it somewhere like to get it serviced. I dont have many miles behind the wheel of it but its enough of an issue for me i have recommended to other friends who want to get a hood scoop for their 5th gens, to forgo the cost of the hood scoop hood and paint cause it flexes and wobbles up and down like its cheap as shit.

Yes I will agree that tablet blows goats. But like everything else, you get used to it; and the rest of the car is really well thought out.

    Also it's fast as shit...

The 6th gen get the same Jiminy Cricket cruise control as the 5th gen?

You mean the previous dedicated cruise control stalk used since the early 90s that allows allows quick access without looking, impossible to mess up and press the wrong button requiring you to look away from the road, and now eliminated to be cheaper to produce via buttons on the steering wheel like every other brand?

No, the way the transmission jumps gears up and down like a cricket whenever you hit a grade running over 60 mph.

TFL released a driving video of the Pro and Trailhunter. I really wish someone would measure that back seat space because it looks even smaller in this video. Also the payload of the Trailhunter is terrible. Only 800+ lbs. Just 4 adults would use up all of it.

I don't know specifics but it's definitely a much better/newer/more advanced/pick your descriptor system. Guess we'll have to wait to see if it still has access to dumb cruise.

I read an online review that came out today, I think it was Motor Trend, that specifically said the backseats were relatively roomy and sufficient for six foot adults

I agree that it definitely looks very cramped. It was C&D that I had read earlier.... they say:

".....the 4Runner's reclining middle row is generous enough for six-footers to sit behind their own driving position, and headroom should be sufficient for all but the tallest riders."

That sounds acceptable for an econobox but not on a $50-60K midsize SUV. These new automotive “journalists” are terrible. I don’t know about you but I want more than “sufficient” space in my SUV.
