The wife's 2012 4Runner threw a tpms light which by using Techstream, I have determined the sensor has reached EOL. I will go ahead and replace all four sensors.

Looking at eBay listings and doing my best to avoid fakes and counterfeits, Is there a way to date year of manufacture to avoid old stock?

I've also noticed listings claiming OEM that shows the unit with a Maxwell battery, and others with a Panasonic battery.

I wonder if the battery difference alone may help differentiate older and newer stock?

Too risky to do this via eBay. The amount of counterfeits are amazing. Including Amazon. For me, I’d let Discount Tire or a similar shop do them.

I fully agree with @morfdq . Let Discount Tire take care of it by purchasing sensors from them and letting them install the sensors. If anything goes wrong with TPMS in the future, they will fix it. Usually for free.

Amen brother. I no longer buy parts from eBay or Amazon after hearing even oil filters are being counterfeited. If it’s electronic component I go OEM. Anything else I go to Rock Auto.

I would go the dealer route, mine price matched BAM Automotive, $62.

Another warning about not buying these from Ebay or Amazon. There are multiple Toyota dealers on line who can sell you genuine Toyota sensors for a good price. That's what I did. And installed them myself although if you don't have the means to do that you may have to have a tire dealership install them for you.

No need for texhstream if oem, you can do through dash settings.

I agree with OEM. I follow a YouTube Toyota mechanic he says the same thing. Especially with electrical components.

to your point about dealership prices, a front bearing hub from Toyota for $134. Rock Auto has one for $138. You can get OEM oil filters for far cheaper than aftermarket

If you have techstream, you can get 5 sensors, and program the 5th one in for the spare. I have one on the spare but dont access to techstream to have that show up on the dash.
