Peterson Toyota of Boise, Idaho claims to provide 5 free oil changes during the first 2 years after your new car purchase. I just returned home from what I thought was my second oil change on my 2024 4Runner, but the service tech informed me that it was actually my first oil change. Of the 5 advertised "free oil changes", your oil is only changed at 2 of the 5 visits. So just know when you take time off work and sit in their lobby for an hour for the other 3 visits, they're merely rotating tires and topping off fluids, which is essentially just topping off your wiper fluid.

Their salesmen flat out lie to you and tell you that all 5 visits include an oil change. Buyer beware.

This is common for all Toyota service. Toyota dealership only change oil for 12 month /10K miles which ever comes first since that's considered normal conditions. (even though you buy a 4runner to drive off pavement, etc..)

If you fall under 6 month / 5000miles oil change category in below conditions you need to pay out of pocket, though it feels unfair.
    • Driving on dirt roads or dusty roads
    • Driving while towing, using a car-top carrier, or heavy vehicle loading
    • Repeated trips of less than five miles in temperatures below 32°F / 0°C
    • Extensive idling and/or low speed driving for a long distance such as police, taxi or door-to-door delivery use

I was told by Peterson Toyota that Toyota offers 4 free service visits with a new car purchase, but Peterson Toyota adds a free 5th visit, and per their salesmen, all 5 visits include an oil change. It's just another lie to be aware of when purchasing a new vehicle from their dealership. But regardless of which dealership you buy from, confirm what the services entail for the "free oil changes".

Not to believe until this dealership have a marketing board or similar to show proof. Or get in written at the time of purchase.

As said above unless anyone puts an advertisement, you only get "free service". So if you drive 25000 in 2 years you get 5 services with 2 oil changes. Not 5 "free oil changes".

Below a pic of normal no cost plan unless dealership advertise something else or buyer purchase an additional service plan.

(My comment is not to take dealership side. Just trying to make you feel better that this is the norm.)

4 service visits doesn't mean 4 oil changes. They probably just top off your washer fluid for 2 hours.

Sorry but stop crying because you did not read the fine print or understand what you are getting.

There's so much to read when you buy a new vehicle, unlike you, I couldn't tell you everything I read that day. Peterson Toyota has a bad reputation for lying and F'ing folks over, and their salesman made it very clear this was 5 "oil changes", not just topping off fluids. My post is just another of many regarding Peterson Toyota's shading deals, and another to appear on Google search results for locals to be aware of.

They threw it at you like you were getting some magical powers for your purchase but yeah it's very basic.

Cool they have a bad rep.

But this post revolved around something you didn't understand not them.

What do you have in writing ?

Did you find this out before or after you bought the 4Runner from them?

This is Toyota Care included service and that's how it is at every dealer. "Two years" of service but is based on recommended service intervals of oil changes at 10k.... So I'm not sure what the issue is. It's either in writing and you're wrong or you misunderstood them when they verbally informed you of the service plan.
