    lol.
Hopefully they don’t give SET distributors any ideas, like… “Fanny Adventure Packs”, $499.00

I have used it zero times, so I take your point. However for this sort of vehicle - where ability to off road is offered, even if the driver never actually does it - I feel a spare is a requirement. I'm not venturing off pavement without a spare.

That seat back angle really looks roughly comparable to the angle of the 5G non third row vehicles when the second row is folded down. Not crazy about the hump between cargo floor and seat backs when folded, but that's workable with some minor fab work.

    Wow. This is lame.

I used my spare in 2017. I don't care if I've never used it. I'd never travel without a spare.

    Agreed.

I would not feel comfortable going anywhere without a spare.

All of the flat tires I’ve had over the years have happened on the road. Nails, screws, sawzall blade and pointy pieces of crushed stone were the cause. I will never drive any vehicle without a spare tire.

There was no spare in the recent Corvettes I owned. But we were on all season run flats.

All of the 2025 4Runner trims I would be interested in, come with a spare. I’m sure one can be added easily to others.

    Kinda weird though…

FYI…fanny packs are back in style but they’re now called “bum bags”.

But they’re wearing it wrong. The style today is to wear it like a crossbody bag.

Probably not much different than these 5th gen add ons from Toyota. (very solid, but body mounted)

I just can't go along with this no spare crap, even in commuter cars.
We can start a new 4runner hypermiling trend. Remove seats, remove cargo tray if you got one, remove roof rails/crossbars/baskets, remove spare (and jack/tools while you're at it), add tall skinny 245/75/17 HT tires and wheel well skirts, start drafting Prius' (Pri'i?) and start enjoying the reward of 19 mpg.

I'm two steps ahead of you bro, I already got my Prius badge. Any moment now, I'll get 48MPG. Then I'll grow a man-bun and wear skinny jeans.

My ex bought a Camaro with no spare but was an option so this goes back to 2010. And not on run flats.
Didn't like it then and don't like it now.

Referencing my own smart ass post above about hypermiling - if you don't get a spare, do you get a jack?

I'm reasonably certain you technically get a spare, but it's a donut spare by default now.

Anyways, flats among friends and family are rare but when a flat does show up, boy would it have been inconvenient without it.

If I had a nickel for each time it was caused by running a tire underinflated for an extended period of time, I would have two nickels. But at least they learned their lesson.

I carry a small compressor and plug kit, I've had two flats that I've fixed without even removing the wheel. IMO it's faster than the spare, which is probably rusted in place anyway.

It's good to have as a last resort though.

Having a plug kit is a good idea. But, it's not really a substitute for a spare tire, IMO.

Also, with a small puncture, I would prefer to put on the spare and take it to a tire shop for a proper patch, anyway.

If people don't bother to drop their spare periodically to check the tire pressure and make sure the mechanism is working, that's their own problem.

Another of those "living in the desert vs everywhere else" items. Rust will not be an issue but the spare may just disintegrate from dry rot when needed if you don't pay attention to it. We haven't had measurable precipitation here in 150 days and may break the all time record in about a week.

    Good point!

It's important to keep an eye on the overall condition of the spare.

I currently have matching spares for both of my sets of tires, so I'll probably just replace the spare whenever I get tires. I suppose it would make sense to switch to a 5 tire rotation, at that rate.

They no longer come with a full-size spare, as in they get a donut spare like the Tacoma. More delusion huh?

    Thanks for the clarification.

I'm not a fan of donut spares, but that's better than relying on a plug kit. I'd probably purchase a matching wheel and tire to replace the donut, if I bought one of those trims.

^Going by Tacoma precedent, the full-size spare doesn't imply a matching spare, i.e. it could be a lightweight temp spare, same numerical size as the road tires, but with shallow tread like a DOT racing slick. The earliest 6th gen teaser pic released by Toyota (cropped pic of blue tailgate) had such a temp spare.

Toyota's justification? The spare has no TPMS sensor, so by regulation it's always temporary use only...

They got rid of the spare as more penny pinching which is a red flag since they obviously jacked up the prices. Where else did they cut corners on? Time will tell but all the new Toyota vehicles are solely about profit above reliability, kaizen is dead when they forced akio Toyoda out as ceo (grandson of founder). The golden age of Toyota is dead they were the last breed of quality vehicles

I’d get a used Toyota 2nd gen or older taco used 5th gen 4Runner 2nd gen or older tundra gx460 or 570 or 200 series or 100 series

probably more realistically an older diesel 2500 as I find my needs changing but if I was forced to buy a brand new vehicle today I’d go with the Lexus gx550 overtrail

We can hope that they cut the easy stuff without compromising what lies under the exterior. But Toyota has always treated the US market as a money grab and the 4Runner is only made for the US market so...

As posted earlier they didn't get rid of the spare. More delusion.

The last Toyota model to delete the spare completely was the first gen Prius Prime, built in Japan under Akio's watch.

And you know which model comes with a matching spare? The new Land Cruiser. You get a 31" Bridgestone highway tire as a spare to match the road tires.
