JBL head unit may not work on a non-JBL 4Runners. The connectivity is different etc.

I've got a non-JBL OEM head unit from a 2022 TRD-Off Road (black trim). The retrofit is probably the best OEM retrofit I've done to my '16. PM me if interested.

Edit: I've sold the HU, but do get others, PM if interested.

Hi yall, I have a 2013 limited and wanted to upgrade to the OEM that has CarPlay but also would love to have gps on its own. is the retrofitting from a new model and purchasing the harness the solution here?

The biggest thing you'll need to look out for is if you have the JBL sound system. It adds some complications to the process because on top of the JBL radio, you'll also need to source the 20+ amplifier. More times than not they'll come with the box below the regular radio it just depends if your source also sends it with the nav harness that connects the two together.

Out of curiosity: Are you selling the HU? If so, what are you going with as a replacement?

First time poster here but this thread caught my eye.

I have a 2014 Limited JBL/Nav and would like to upgrade to a new factory carplay headunit.

I found a 2021 non-JBL carplay unit on Ebay for a reasonable price.

For anyone with experience using the harnesses from autoharnesshouse.com, will their harness work for this situation? Can the new non-JBL headunit work with the JBL amp/sub already in my truck? I plan to email them but just thought I'd see if anyone here has experience.

    Thanks!

No, you will need a JBL unit and the JBL amp from a 2020+ 4 runner to make the swap work in your car. It is an expensive proposition compared to Non JBL units. The harness is also different for the JBL.

I've got an eye out in Marketplace but I'm also posting here as well. I'm looking for 2020-2024 non-JBL head unit with the black trim. If anyone has a clean one or see you please let me know or point me in the right direction. TIA!!

I Have a 2020+ Head unit, Non-JBL, Bllack gloss trim for sale shoot me a message

My 2011 JBL 4runner, would need a 2020+ JBL head unit + $320.00 harness+ a new JBL amp that goes for about $1,000.00.

    I'm probably going to purchase a T10 v2 instead.

Does anybody know if sound quality decreases with these head units if you have the JBL speakers?

Posted this in another thread but not getting much traction. Can anybody help or relate to these issues? Thanks!

Hey Gang, question for the experienced on my current situation. I just installed the Entune 3.0 retro swap on my 2017 4Runner. The head-unit came from a 2021 4Runner. Both vehicles were non-JBL, the new unit does not have factory Navigation but my 2017 did. The new unit is working well but I do have some issues that I want to see if they are “normal,” if I did something wrong, or did I possibly get a bad head-unit. I need to better understand what’s going on so I can work with PayPal (sold as is, no returns) if I got a bad unit. I used the Auto Harness House wire adapter with the USB connection.

    1. The ECO screen option on the home screen. I assumed this wouldn’t work since my 2017 likely was never equipped to send this data to the radio. Mine doesn’t work, but I can’t get it off of the home screen and it drives me crazy having a non-working feature on my home screen. I have gone in and changed which features I want on the home screen but it keeps leaving ECO up. I’ve even tried backing down to two options (audio and phone) but ECO still shows up as one of the options. Is this normal? Is there a fix for it?
    2. Steering wheel controls. Volume works fine, the up and down controls work fine, but the left and right controls do nothing. I thought I read about that before but now I can’t find it. It’s not that big of a deal but when you’re trying to scan through SXM, this feature is too handy not to have. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? Possibly a bad head-unit?
    3. I haven’t been able to get the Weather to update and my understanding was this is fed by the HD Radio signal; it appears my HD channels are working though. This doesn’t really matter much since I can’t get the weather on my home screen because of the dang ECO taking up space even when it’s not selected.

TIA for any assistance. Be well.

Id like to know what you find out about #2. I like to use the left and right controls to fast forward and rewind. Also, is AppleCar Play wireless?

The OEM CarPlay is not wireless, but you can add a wireless connector, Amazon has several with strong reviews. I'm still using the cord because of the phone charging.

Still no word on the side control (Fast Fwd/Reverse) buttons not working.
