I did not get them but do appreciate that they are user upgrade down the line, would be cool if they come out with superchargers that can trigger between pushing out regular road legal power and supercharged. So you can flip a switch and go really quick rather have to swap modules. I understand why they want you to swap, so theres no arguing if you are DOT legal or not.

I wonder how much fiddling it takes to swap while mounted.

Couple of issues. If they were a complete plug and play it would be great. However the fact that you have to put in an adda fuse for the drl isn't appealing. The cutoff s so sharp its not comforting to have the blackness on country roads above the cutoff line. Second this is I hope they resolved the lights size it leaves some of the body exposed that was covered by the OEM light. I had the 2nd gen liights for the simple reason Toyota had not updated the lights on the DRl and to me they should have some LED DRL styling. That halogen bulb for a DRL is cheaping out. But we all know how Toyota loves to make us pay big bucks for a vehicle and discover skimping. Example my 2025 Land Cruiser @ 70k has hood props an a Yaris sounding horn. WTF

 

Came home to a nice surprise! Thanks again memario1214. Might take afternoon off tomorrow and throw them on. Also props to morimoto on reducing the box size, old gen2 were MASSIVE compared to this.

 

Low beam is still in legal limits, it's when you use highs. How often would you use highs on streets with cars around. Just a thought.

 

I'm pretty sure the supercharger makes the lows beyond legal limits. @yoshi i can confirm this for us.

Super Charger driver makes Low Beam and High beam driver rate go up. As a result, it put high beam beam center intensity above regulation limit. This is the main reason why SC driver is labeled as none-compliance. But for low beam, even it push several test points nearly upper most allowance level, they still remain under allowance limit of LB2V low beam regulation. 2" down @25' is essential aim with SC driver. If any lift, fitted larger tires, 3' down is essential. DRL does not change its output by SC driver.

 

Nope (no fault of hotshot, I don't think he knew it was coming)! I'm actually surprised because Fedex usually sends me an alert I'm getting a package.

The tracking said it got delivered on Saturday, I'm in a pretty safe building but kinda scary it was sitting there for a whole day. I tracked the package and it came from Anaheim, if you have fedex delivery manager it might be in there.

 

I'll have to check. I'm in Fl so I'm thinking later in the week most likely.

Low beam remain under FMVSS108 LB2V regulation limit even with SC driver. Just really borderline allowance, upper most on some of test points. Make sure aim 2" down @25' for stock height user, if fitted with larger tires or lifted, 3" down @25'
Interestingly or ironically I shall say, low beam does NOT have intensity limit in main projection area unlike high beam limit beam center intensity to be no more than 75,000Cd technically, we can have 200,000Cd for low beam distance zone as long as glare zone, foreground zone is regulated Of course, such ridiculous intensity assignment makes high beam relatively useless, so no one will do so.

Not to use high beam onto oncoming traffics are not even need to be mentioned basic anyway. So aim lamp correctly, be mindful usage of function with understanding of SC driver is none-compliance modify parts is my advise.

Just finished putting these on, took about 45mins (note this is my 3rd time doing this and can get all the bolts and clips off very fast, I also have a full front so no wheel well clips).

Some notes
The DRL harness (yellow one) from gen 2 are not compatible with the EVO, it may go with force but it was more than I comfortable with so I just swapped it out.

The gap between the fender panel and the light is MUCH better its not OEM perfect but there is not a huge gap between like before.

Haven't drove around yet, still daylight out here but the DRL is very nice the tube makes it look very refined rather bunch of dots the topo is cool but i'll never see it lol

first impressions of the lights just shining during day light against my building's garage wall - its noticeably brighter than the gen2s.

Not sure if the optical center is suppose to be even on both sides (i'm pretty sure my truck is level) but optical center reads quarter inch higher on passenger vs driver.

 

Optical center should be identical height between driver and passenger side. Possibly suspension condition difference? 1/4" could be well within tolerance considering ground surface level may not be that uniformed flat. I would not worry too much about for 1/4" difference ground to lamp center.

 

Have aimed mine and drove around some dark streets as well as heavy traffic streets.

XB evos are better on the width and fill of the light, I can easier see street signs.

The"dips" works really well, I dont feel like I am blasting the oncoming traffic as I was with my gen2 (properly aimed as well).

Super interesting read. The upper illumination makes a huge difference compared to the gen2's where it was hard to see street signs on dark streets.

 

it was because gen2 were assembled with available off the shelf somewhat OK LED projector, and really just bare minimum upper illumination was available More like it was not intentionally designed, incidental scatter was just high enough to count as minimum threshold and never optically intentionally designed.
99% of aftermarket optics are fully junk due to 2 reason. One is those aftermarket projector manufacture is either not capable of design lamp correctly, or not even aware of requirement The other reason is ill informed aftermarket community somehow prefer, think clear lens, sharp cutoff to be desired feature.
Sharp cutoff by clear lens really has nothing but the negative aspect. And if there is no upper illumination is designed, it's the worst( which is vat majority of aftermarket optics).
DOT only require sharpness of cutoff to be certain minimum for visual aiming purpose, but ECE does require "softness" of cutoff beside sharpness of cutoff for very important reason. See attached 2 PDF, review with full screen.

Type 1 projector used in XB Evo is purpose build for SUV, truck ( higher lamp mount height) application. I usually design upper illumination bit closer to cutoff line, but SUV, truck mostly required to have beam aimed 0.38° down due to lamp mount height, I gave safe glare free zone, and shift 50m sign illuminator 0.38° higher for its consideration.
This is the benefit of purpose build projector design, I can have full control in however the way I wanted to assign beam distribution.

No aftermarket LED projector has such consideration, including retrofit purpose Bi-LED projectors. They may boast barbaric intensity values, but it's all in wrong proportion and intensity assignment within beam. Of course, no meaningful upper illumination nor most of the time, cutoff step height is just a look alike level amateur design.
Step size is very sensitive and one of the hardest parameter for engineer to optimize.
Within compliance regulation boundary, as single light source Bi-function LED projector, type 1 projector was really optimized to the max potency

Question regarding the DRL/heater circuit, can you confirm it uses 20amp fuse that should be be used with this? I cut the end off and noticed the 10 and 20 amp fuse on the add-a-circuit. Currently running a 5 amp fuse from my old gen 2.

 

20A fuse shall be used. Protect original fused line with selected same 10A fuse rating, added line shall be 20A
