    Hello
I’m looking for a little advice.
I recently bought a stock 2019 ORP, I just ran across a 4Runner for sale, it started out as the same vehicle I have but has multiple upgrades. My thought is to buy this new one and sell mine but I don’t have much experience with 4Runners and there seems to have various opinions regarding some of these mods.
    The 4R in question has:
    Magnuson Supercharger
    Regear to 4.56
    Lockers
    Icon stage 6
    Sliders
Lo pro bumper with Warn winch, not sure which winch
    Various other bells and whistles
My concern is the Magnuson and the regear. The 4R has 60k mikes so warranty isn’t a factor, I have a call scheduled with the owner tonight so I’ll get more info but I don’t know who installed the SC or when, same with the regear.
Any opinions on the idea of the deal as a whole? Any recommendations on things to look for on the SC? I have zero experience with a SC. Any opinions on a SC and regear combo when someone else paid for it?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome from Wisconsin! The regear seems pretty straight forward, the addition of Icon suspension and components is a spendy add on, almost as much as the Magnuson. How many miles on this rig? How much does the seller want for the rig? Does the seller in conversation seem like someone who thrashed the crap out of the machine? Why is the seller getting rid of it? I guess I would go look at it and see if it has any signs of obvious abuse. It may be hrs. away, but seeing it in person may be worth a thousand words. Good luck.

    Me personally-

Magnuson Supercharger = No sale, walk away.

Lockers, Icon stage 6, Sliders = Seems OK for a reduced price from stock resale value

Regear to 4.56 - Since I have no clue about regears I would test drive at highway speeds to check if it still capable of using all 5speeds in transmission or it try to do everything with 4spd

Lo pro bumper with Warn winch - little concerning as around here I've seen few folks having trouble with insurance as they deny to insure the 4runners with s
    Bumpers and winch.

I'd just get information on what shop did the regear and supercharger install. If the shop is reputable that's a good sign. If it's been worked on by multiple shops that might be a red flag. If the supercharger was a DIY install that also might be a bit of a red flag depending on that person's ability imo.

If the shop(s) are reputable and the test drive goes smooth, I'd recommend immediately taking it to that shop and having them look over it. Would be nice having a clean bill of health from someone who specializes in this rigs and their mods.

I must live under a rock - where has this come up? I've never seen it - I've also never had issues with insurance RE any aftermarket parts. Hell, had no issue insuring my JLUR with a Poison Spyder Stubby/Stinger/Winch combo. Were people cancelled after an accident, or were they not reimbursed for the aftermarket parts after an accident? I can't imagine an insurance company asking for pics of a vehicle just to get coverage.

I have that combination, Maggie with 456 gears, it is pretty sweet combo IMO. I think I would take the vehicle out in the open and do severall pulls and then get underneath and look around carefully. I would ask for all the maintenance records, who installed the maggie, look at pulleys and tensioner (mine had some vibration recently). Ask if it has been tuned recently with something different than the maggie tune. If the vehicle has signs of abuse and neglect, I would walk away and just mod yours. The maggie and the gears are fine but you can't abuse these components either. Good luck. P.S. if you don't mind me asking, how much is the seller asking for it? I am considering selling mine as well...but not ready yet.

If you’re considering a heavily modified vehicle, even if it has the stuff you actually like, you have to treat the mods as something that reduces the vehicle’s value. It’s gonna take longer for you to inspect it with enough confidence that the supercharger is well installed and well tuned, and to make sure the new diff gears are broken in right and and not too loud. Might even be good to have the diffs drained and check the oil for weirdness, if you know what to look for.

If you don’t catch any problems now, you have to be ok with spending time and money to correct it later. Since they are significant engine/drivetrain mods, it will be a financially more risky purchase compared to a more stock Toyota.

If it has all those things already why sell it with low miles? If those are the mods you want, cool. But i personally wouldn't give too much more for them. Its your decision and money, and these are our opinions to be with a grain of salt.

But that's a lot of expensive stuff for not a lot of mileage with them.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I talked to the owner this evening and learned a little, we’re going to meet Wednesday evening and I’ll give it a good inspection and test drive.
I’m a little concerned because the current owner isn’t the first owner and he bought the 4R pretty much as it is now. He thinks he has the installation paperwork but we’re in Florida and the work was done in Colorado. According to him the original owner had it done soon after he bought the truck, got sick, and sold it with 13k miles to the current owner. He lived in Wyoming and used it to drive to archeological sites, he’s a professor, and his wife is a medical professional and used it to drive to work in the snow. They have family in here and drove it between WY and FL. He said they only drove it on Forest service type roads and snow.
It has 2 inches of lift and 285/70/R17 tires that need replacing.
He claims with the SC and 4.56 regear it gets 19 mpg around town and about 14 mpg at 80 mph on the highway. Does that sound right? I’m less concerned about the actual numbers and more concerned if he’s FOS.
I’m considering this vehicle rather than building mine simply because of cost. I’ll get a SC, regear, Icon suspension, Victory sliders, and more for way less than I would starting from scratch, of course I’ll also be rolling the dice too. On a few things.
    That’s the idea anyway.
    Thanks for your input.

I found a very similar spec 4Runner in auction that was not sold.

my guess is that he is embellishing the mpg numbers. root chargers are full band power , so it's not like a turbo or centrifugal SC where you can just lay off it to save gas. if anything that would make those 2 numbers flipped around.

But just take everything with a grain of salt and believe your own eyes and ears when checking it out in person.
