    I think the TX shares a platform with the Grand Highlander and has a standard type hybrid system with multiple motors rather than the silly power boost type hybrid system in the LC, Tacoma and 4Runner.

    Plus it is FWD with 2 electric motors... The same but totally different, key takeaway was a 2.4l turbo hybrid that was quiet, my LC let's you know it accelerating from a stop !

    The transverse and longitudinal 2.4’s share only 43% parts content according to some article I read which could be some of the difference.

    Based on the critical response to the LC and the trajectory of it's sales, I would be surprised not to see a refresh by 2027 (if not 2026) with some powertrain enhancements.

    Now I am wondering if the gas only 4Runner will end up being faster than the hybrid version, between the spec of the 2.4T and the 8 speed gear box, that combo theoretically should allow acceleration to 60 around 7 second range.

    In case you haven't seen this one, DeMuro gives an absolutely savage review of the new LC. The LC's drivetrain is the target of most of his criticism... and more specifically, the complete lack of power and how hard the engine seems to be working to make it go. If it's that bad as a hybrid, it doesn't bode well for the same engine without the augmentation of a battery.

    A couple of years down the road if they decide to offer the GX V6TT in a higher trim level 4R i'd give it a serious look. As it stands, I want nothing to do with this turbo 4 with or without the hybrid option.

    that's just the thing though, people with the 2.4T gas only in the Taco seem to be happy about the power. That's why I wondered if the hybrid system is nerfing the gas motor to make it work with the electric motor.

    The Ram with the Cummins pulls power every upshift over 2nd gear. It pulls more and more power the higher the gears go. In 5th gear at WOT the timing and throttle is limited to about 50% of the engines actual power. This is purely to save the transmission. Ram was the first to do it and in recent years Ford and GM are both doing the same as well now. The engines all make more torque than their trans will hold, so they make big numbers on paper or an engine dyno, but cant physically use it all down the line thru the trans so they all depower as they upshift into the higher gears.
    If you unlock the power on the cummins on any of the 2014+ HO setups with over 850ft/lb of torque you have a speed demon that will gap a duramax, but the trans wont live long.
    I have had a myriad of Toyotas, probably around 20 or 25 now honestly, but in the recent past i bought a 2003 Tacoma with the 2RZ and a 2004 Tacoma with the 3RZ and eventually put a 3RZ in the 2003 and turbo'd it, then owned a 2006 tacoma with the 1GR and ordered a 2008 tacoma with the 1GR after they released the TRD S/C and ordered the S/C as soon as the part numbers were released. I eventually was able to buy a 2008 4R Urban Runner with the 1GR and honestly it was the "stoutest" box stock vehicle i had driven. It was night and day stronger than my 2008 Tacoma was new both with the same engine. Not many years later i bought the wife a 2012 4R and then a 2017 and now a 2023 4R. I still have the 2008 4R with about 250,000 miles now and its still strong as shit, matter of fact it will whip my wifes new 2023s ass big time. I have put the TRD intake, and Overland Taylor Tune on the wifes 2023 which made a huge difference, but it still wont outrun my box stock, paper air filter, stock exhaust, 250,000 mile 2008 4R with the 1GR-FE. Both have practically the same tires and all.

    My wifes 2012 was peppier than her new 2023, the 2023 was by far lazier and more sluggish. The ECU tuning is way way different from the earlier years. The throttle mapping, timing, and power delivery are all way watered down in the newer stuff.

    Is the Tacoma probably not lighter? So less strain on a 2.4T ?
    I remember driving a 4 Cyl Highlander vs a 6 Cyl Highlander back then. Difference was day and night.
    Our Previous 4Cyl 2010 Venza was underpowered with severe oil burning Issues.

    Yes. The 2024 Tacoma hybrid is roughly 400 pounds lighter than the 2024 Land Cruiser hybrid. 800 pounds for the non hybrid Tacoma.

    The hybrid 2025 4Runner is the same weight as the Land Cruiser.

    But the LC250 has a hybrid system with way more impressive spec. Compare that to the GX it is apparent spec'ing the L250 with only the 4 cylinder hybrid seems like an exercise to see how desperate buyers are to be seen in a vehicle wearing the "Land Cruiser" badge.

    It's only a few hundred lbs for comparable models. And, the Tacoma has a higher towing capacity, so potentially more strain on the drivetrain.

    I don’t think people are giving 4 cylinders credit for how durable they can be. Consider the fact that a 4 cylinder has more main bearings than a V6.

    And, the 4 cylinder Highlander you drove probably made well under 200 lb/ft of torque, at like 4,000 RPM's. This 2.4 makes significantly more torque than the outgoing V6, and at 1700 RPM's.
