Obviously there is some sort of crockpot set up for his reservoir on the roof of his 4Runner to pre-warm the oil.

Naw, it’s a heating element in the RTOT running off 7 AGM batteries in rear cargo area. Putting a ceramic crock pot on the roof is just to dangerous, and the oil is constantly heated in this setup. Take no chances.

    Time.

How valuable is your time to you?

I'd personally rather buy the higher quality oil that safely protects up to 10k so that I'm not doubling my oil change time.

And the higher quality oils that will do that aren't always double the price.

Hmm, I guess that is the flaw in the setup.

It’s takes me less than an hour to do an oil change a few times a year. Also at 5000 to 7500 oil change intervals I’m confident that I’m not burning much oil so I never check the oil level. Going 16000 miles would be some concern and checking/adding more oil is another waste of time and money.

You don't burn boil at those long intervals unless you have an oil burner

I go with the higher grade too due to the miles i used to put on (30k+ a year). I would kill myself having to change cheaper oil more often let alone that would cost me money to take time out of my day to drop the skids and deal with the 4 peace oil filter. Do i want to save $50, or save my time that's worth $500, it's a no brainer for me.

Plus you never know when some bad shit will happen and your forced to do 10K+++ on one oil change.

    Be prepared my friends!

...^^^... Some people just don't mind changing their own oil frequently, especially with mostly in-town driving. Retired here and I crawl under the vehicle and take my time (listening to the news and/or music) on the oil change and check the vehicle under-carriage in general. I think a lot of this comes from being around aircraft all my life and ... "fixing things before they break" ... is in my blood. I do a "walk around" most of the time when I park it also. Different people have different reasons for what they do ... pretty simple.

I don’t like other people wrenching on my vehicles. My 4Runner has never had anyone work on it but me and my Tacoma has only been to the dealer twice for recall items and once to a local shop for an alignment.

I would tend to agree with this, because I always consider the value of my time when it comes to vehicle repairs and maintenance.

But, I also like to rotate the tires every 5K. Since I'm putting it up on jack stands anyway, the oil change adds maybe 15-20 minutes to the procedure. If I'm not slacking off, I can get everything done in well under an hour. With a little lolly-gagging, it's usually still around an hour.

Your time is worth $500/hr? Lawyer? :D

Yotaholic is talking about fuel dilution where some gas can make it's way into the engine oil and stick around depending on driving conditions. Gas is a very bad lubricant so it can be an issue if enough of it gets in there. In bad cases you can have people noticing their engine oil smelling like gas or even the readout on the dipstick going up.

Things to be done include shorter oil change intervals, the occasional longer highway run. I got some oil analyses on my previous car and it came back with a touch of fuel dilution but not enough for concern.

Did you change out your summer blinker fluid for winter blend? Note 2022+ LED headlights must use full synthetic blinker fluid.

Gasoline also thins the oil. Your 8.8 Cst 0W-20 will become 7 in no time lol

...^^^... Some very interesting videos on You-Tube from some of the Toyota pro mechanics talking about and showing examples of ... cars with oil

changes every 5,000 and cars with oil changes every 10,000 miles ... the difference on an engine tear-down was scary.

Of course, the more "highway miles" the better and not sure how this was figured into the tear-down.
