I was driving my 2023 SR5 Premium home today and experienced what seemed to be a complete computer meltdown. Multiple warning lights came on as well as multiple sensor malfunction messages scrolled across the screen.

Picture of the lights below and a complete list of the malfunctions as follows:
    "Blind Spot Monitor Malfunction"
    "Rear Cross Traffic Alert Malfunction"
    "Drive-Start Control Malfunction"
"Braking Power Low - Stop in a Safe Place" (my favorite)
    "Antilock Brake System Malfunction"
    "Pre-Collision System Malfunction"

It would seem to me all of these systems have to do with the brakes? I was driving in some significant snow and ice.

Taking it in the dealer tomorrow, but a question for this group: Is this common? Anyone have a similar experience?

(This is my first "modern" computerized car. My other car is a 2008 manual Honda Civic. I was intimidated buying something with all these sensors. This seems to be confirming my fears.)

    Oooh look, another mod.....
    Braking Power Low?

I have never seen or heard of that warning before. That would be a serious red flag in my book. I'd park it and only drive it to the dealership. I'm curious to know how this happened and what that message means.

Others have bad stuff like this happen and sadly rodents ate some wiring. Do you park outside often?

Interesting idea. I think it's low probability. It's always parked inside and I've never seen a mouse. Thanks for the response.

I keep tons of bounce fabric sheets underneath engine area when it’s stored for winter. I know some think bounce is not effective but knock on wood 20 years using in my boat for winter has worked. I add fresh sheets every few weeks. The garage always smells nice and relatively speaking it’s cheaper than repairs

I've experienced the "braking power low" error message and a few others listed here after I changed my pads and pumped up my brakes. Peddle felt dead at first as expected. Pumped the peddle for a few minutes until brake peddle feel returned to normal. Restarted the rig and error messages went away.

In your case, I have no idea why you would get that error message after driving normally. I'm curious if there a wiring issue (rats?, ground issue?, low voltage?) or a sensor/ solenoid that's gone out on you.

A user the other day damaged a wheel speed sensor driving through snow and ice recently. Could certainly be that.

I'll be very curious to see what the dealer says. Please report back with the solution for future viewers.

I won’t repeat here all I’ve already added on that thread, except that the multiple warning lights and messages were off this morning at start up, then came on as I started driving, then went off a mile later. It all started in the slushy snow here in the NC high country. Updating the other thread as things progress.

And the 4Runner is 10-15 years behind the mainstream in technology. You're driving a living fossil!

Low braking power can cause the other functions to be inoperative, so focus on that.

Make sure the brake fluid reservoir is full.

Visually inspect the wiring bundle going to the electronic brake booster for chewed wires.

Make sure all 3 brake lights work.

On next cold morning, measure the battery voltage with a multimeter before starting vehicle. Should be at least 12.6V.

You took the picture with the transmission in D. Were you able to shift into and out of Park easily? Did the gauge screen always show shifter position correctly?

    Resolution:
Right rear wheel speed sensor was the issue. There were no signs of physical damage, but it was not responding to the computer. Replacing the harness fixed all the errors. ~$460 repair. Luckily it was covered by the 3-year/36k-mile warranty.

REALLY appreciate all the responses. This is a great community.

Do you happened to know the part# for the harness? It should be on the diagnostic/receipt. Someone without extended warranty could benefit by doing the replacement on their own.

I have a resolution! I replaced the left rear wheel speed sensor and disconnected the negative battery cable for about 10 minutes. After driving about 150 miles, the light show is over! Went with the CarQuest sensor (part number ARC1067) from Advance Auto, $145 with on-line discount code. Dealership wanted $475 installed.
