Thinking about installing the amber colored Raptor LEDs on 2024 TRP ORP. Why do all the install videos run the wires to the interior fuse box with an add-a-fuse when there is a nice convenient fuse box inside the engine compartment. Much simpler wiring plus less chance of a wire chafing or interfereing with pedals etc…

Any long term review of these things? Was thinking about an ignition-on fuse or maybe the DRL 10A fuse (with an add-a-fuse). This way I can have them off if I want with the DRL stalk.

Not interested in an interior fuse install or another panel switch.

The majority of Raptor light installations have resulted in creating electrical problems on 5th Gens, as reported on this forum. Tread carefully and good luck.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Most of the long term reviews are negative. Lights failing after a short amount of time. Weird electrical issues coming up. Fuses randomly blowing.

Just remember, you own a Toyota, not a Ford.

I have tried every fuse possibly available for the raptor lights. Inside. Outside. Upside down. Not one has given me success. No start. Had that. Nav screen/radio not work. Yep. Stalled while driving. Yes. In each and every case, rip that crap out and all is good. Makes me mad that I can't get them to work properly for any length of time. I really do like them, don't get me wrong, but damn, why don't they work like they are supposed to??? Would love to know the answer to this question also.,

I went to extend where I added a relay harness and a dash switch for my raptor style grill lights only to see they fail after few months. What a waste of time and money for me. Never ever will install raptor style grill lights again.

BTW I install them on purpose, to be my DRLs, as I used my DRLs as my 2nd set of highbeams / "quad high beams" as some call.

My marker lights (haha!) have been running for two years with no issues. I bought them from CTH along with my Pro grille. I have them hooked up inside. I also bought an extended fusebox cover from someone here who was selling them. Most likely I will not replace them when they sh!t the bed.

Wow, if they are simply connected to a fuse in the fuse box under the hood, hoe could they possibly interfere with the nav screen?

I ran the wires through a rubber grommet in the firewall, grounded on the bolt for the fuse panel, half tap fuse in an accessory slot. That was last June, so far no issues.

I’d probably use a switched underhood fusebox tap to trigger a relay so they’re powered from the battery.

A while back, I installed some so-called Raptor light fixtures in the grill of my 2022 T4R. I didn’t even have them wired up to be operational yet when I inquired here as to why they are called Raptor lights.

When I was told that FORD had first started calling them that, I thought screw that and removed the Raptor lights from my grill.

I didn’t want to be looked upon as being a FORD wannabe. lol.

But, I digress. To each his own. If you like it, cool. I bet most folks who are not FORD owners do not even associate “Raptor” lights with FORD.

Spend the money on some quality 9005 LED bulbs for the DRL instead. The raptor lights were only installed on Ford 1/2 tons to imitate(badly) the clearance lights on commercial vehicles and 3/4+ ton pickups and ironically, when I used to drive a 1 ton Ford, I didn't bother checking the box when I ordered the truck, we used to make fun of Raptors for their low payload and lack of a V8 after 2016 or so.

Putting them on Toyotas would be 2nd hand cringe.

Too poor to buy anything now
To answer your question about why some people run the wire to the inside fuse box, they preferred to put them on their own switch so they ran the wiring from the switch to the inside fuse box.
But I gotta add my feeling about raptor lights, it'd be like saying "I wish this was a Ford".

To put it simply, adding an add-a-fuse to main fuse box inside the engine compartment will result in you not being able to close the lid properly. Maybe there is a low profile add-a-fuse available but I’ve tried twice and said to hell with it. Went with an auxiliary control box wired directly to the battery (post) and never looked back.

…and thbbttttt to all the haters

I mean, you're not right. Raptor lights were installed on Raptor F150's because they were required by federal law due to their width, not to imitate anything. Not sure why you made fun of their "low payload", its a half-ton truck with a payload appropriate for a half-ton truck...they also don't ride like their tires are bricks like a 1-ton Ford so...

As a former owner of a 6.2L Raptor I totally agree . It’s a 1/2 ton truck with a 1/2 ton payload. Also out of the 25 vehicles I’ve owned the Raptor and my wife’s GX were the two best riding out of the bunch .

I’ve not had any issues or weird electrical issues after installing mine. Used add a fuse to the “Tail” slot inside the cab, used an AOB switch (to selectively turn them off if wanted), and a relay.

Most of the issues happen when folks tie into circuits like IGN or the like when searching for an active when ignition is on circuit. Not necessarily for raptor lights. Seems that such circuits are sensitive to extra loads being placed upon them, causing possible issues like voltage drops or abnormal current draw than what the original circuit was intended for.

    I totally agree.
This is why some of use have auxiliary circuits that are separate from the OEM electrical circuits!
That being said, some items that draw milliamperes can be added to non critical circuits without issue.

The raptor lights on F150 Raptors are a subject of wide spread mocking by the heavier duty Ford truck owners. The width-based clearance lights are required for rear view mirrors, cab roof lights, fenders on duallies, etc at the edge of the vehicle, how does putting these lights in the grill help?

In any case, the F350 I had was wider, taller, and longer than a Raptor and it did not come standard for cab lights or anything, just the external mirrors each had a dim amber light when the lights are on. The grill lights on Raptors are nothing but cosmetic vanity lights.

But don't mind me, it's not like I have been driving class 3 and up trucks and pickups(yes! there is a difference!) including medium duty chassis cabs for the last 25 years or something.

I have them on my 4R. I ran them to my Auxbeam that has a switch pod inside the cabin. Do yourself a favor and get some good quality ones. I would stay away from Amazon.

I think one needs to be careful when selecting but then it’s Amazon and a crap shoot at times. I’ve been fortunate so far, just about 18 months on these…they’re quite bright (brighter than my DRLs.)

I found it easy to snake an add-a-fuse wire from the low profile fuses out of the fusebox. The lid closes OK and pinches a bit down on the wire. I could just cut a tiny opening there if I want.

what spot did you put the raptor light fuse in? I heard people having good luck with using the KDSS fuse if not equipped with KDSS.

Hey, don't be messin' with the KDSS fuse, especially for raptor lights. That's double sacrilege.
