    Hey all,
Ive been on this site several times, as I was thinking about a 2024 Tacoma. I did a lot of research and discovered the 4Runners still had the V6 and since that was what I wanted I started looking for a new one. I quickly realized I began my search laughably late, as the ‘25’s are coming, and there were no new ‘24’s in my area (MA). I found 4 new in my national search and none of them panned out (already sold, dealers had not updated their sites, etc…). Needless to say I had to start looking for lightly used and was also wildly unsuccessful. Long story endless I found a 2024 Limited with 140 miles 1500 mi away and it was just delivered Thursday.
A little background on me is I do mostly paved backroad/highway driving on the three days I work. The rest of my time is spent in NH, about 2.5h away. Again, mostly highway driving but our house is off on gravel roads, in a rural area. I am going to make some changes as the Limited is fine but it’s not what I want in terms of doing some light off-roading and also clearing some of our rural property. The TRD and that line would have been a better fit and I plan to start some mods soon.
Here is where I need your feedback/expertise. My specific question has to do with the front bumper/Toyota sense. I was thinking Id possibly add a Westin winch mount front bumper but Im not able to determine this on their website. I plan to call Westin but this particular site seemingly covers every topic Ive had a question about so far. Im wondering if Im limited in my… Limited?

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Welcome aboard! Let me summon some of our "Limited" members who have done custom/stealth mods to their Limited's, and they look pretty darn cool.

@Harringbr99 @kmeeg Chime in and help the brother out.

I'm sure OP will find lot of positive comments from the Limited owners like how easy it is to drive in winter with its full time 4wd vs part time 4wd models and when Mrs drive not having to think about switching back and forth to 4wd. So let me talk about the negative or concerns.

The biggest concern I've seen is XREAS shocks leaking, especially since OP said "our house is off on gravel roads". I'm not sure how long XREAS shocks can survive on rough terrain. Replacing XREAS seems cost alot and normally people replace with regular independent shocks.

Thicker rocker panels is my next complain. Good thing our Limited is pavement princes and have automatic running boards. I do not like the look of fixed running boards on Limited. They are too low to my taste. If My automatic running boards break maybe I'll be screwed. I looked at replacing the rocker panels with regular panels for future needs and realized the rear trim piece is different and most likely be a huge job replacing that wheel arch plastic piece that require help from a body shop.

Front bumper does not seems to be easy replacement either. Lot of parts need to swap and need to drill holes for the parking sensors. I looked at removing the bumper for some other mods but doesn't look easy vs I could remove pre 2020 SR5 / TRD bumper bling folded.

I was not a fan of 20in wheels especially the way my wife drives. So I replace the wheels to 17in. It took few weeks to sell the 20in wheels as no body / very few like them.

Since Limited has ventilated seats the seats have small holes for the air flow. I like TRD seats with no holes I can sit on dirt or any thing and worry about dirt getting in.

I'm not a fan Limited not having mud flaps where dirt splash on the side. This would be an important item for OP living on rural roads. Not sure how much work to add aftermarket mudflaps as regular 4Runner factory mudflaps does not seem to fit Limiteds.

3rd row seat has mixed feelings. I absolutely love 3rd row when my parents and in-laws in tow. But 3rd row will have cargo area about 4-5 inches taller vs my dog loves my TRD without sliding tray where the bumper and cargo floor is almost level, easy to get in and out. More the height availability is better for my tall german shepherd.

So much negativity about the vehicle and totally off the wall stuff that could easily be debunked.
    1) Ihe Xreas shocks ride better than anything you can buy for the 4R, literally every aftermarket product rides like hammered ass compared to the OEM Xreas. If you read thru the forums you would see the "average" life expectancy for the Xreas is about 175,000 miles before they start leaking. Yes when they leak the ride starts to degrade quickly and you will have to put aftermarket shocks on the rig, hence when you realize how much smoother and better the Xreas rode than anything else. The "softest" thing i have read about is the Eibach adjustable coil-overs and honestly they are WAAAYYYYY stiffer. Dont recommend.... Dash rattles on chip seal roads, keep Xreas as long as possible.

    2) The auto running boards are awesome, tons of hate online about them not working blah blah cant put mud guards / mud flaps on blah blah. If you looked under the vehicle for more than 4 seconds you could see there is physically nothing different from your Limited with Auto running boards vs any other limited, the fender trim and rockers are identical which means the standard toyota Limited mud guards will bolt right up once you make one of two modifications to the running boards. Neither of these matter cuz the OP clearly has a Limited with fixed running boards as can be seen in the avatar. But here i scooped these up just for you.

Here is one for the mechanically inclined tinkerers Here is the second, loosen the screws that hold the boards to the arms, slide the boards back about a half inch, tighten the screws back up 3) The front bumper for the Limited doesnt allow many winch mount ideas, but its do-able with fab skills. I have seen one guy who flushed a winch behind the lower bumper and braced it up and just had a fairlead on the front lower bumper. The CaliRaised Stealth bumper on the SR5 front end looks pretty bangin, but you would have to swap front bumpers. Its do-able, plenty have done it but i personally like the Limited front end and me personally wouldnt mess with it. The likliehood that you need a winch is slim unless you are doing a bit more offroad than you are alluding to.

    4) the 20" limited wheels are nice, tons of folks like them, most folks are scared and dont think they can find tires to fit them but there are a world of options out there now for the 20" limited wheels. I love them and the tire selection is great. I personally run the General Grabber AT/X they have 4 different sizes that will fit the 4Runner with 20" limited wheels depending on your wants / needs / lift.
    275/55-20 <-- can fit stock
    285/55-20 <-- needs +1.5" lift
    305/50-20 <-- needs +2.5" lift
    33x12.50x20 <-- needs +2.5" lift plus trimming

Welcome from Kentucky! Congratulations on your new rig:
Here is some text I posted in a previous thread. It includes images of trimming I had done while keeping the parking sensors working. (at least in the front.)
I bought a BudBuilt front winch mount, and requested to make sure that they send the one with the recovery points included.

"I purchased my '21 T4R Limited 4 years ago. I needed the 3rd row for my family, and could justify it as a sensible family vehicle. I really didn't intend to offroad at that time.
I can only echo the great inputs that @nova @steelevo and many others have contributed to this thread.
    1. The 4x4 Limited is still a 4runner from the start and will get you through the snow, and nearly any forestry roads without mods. Start there, enjoy the quiet, quiet ride from those OEM tires.
    2. You are already on the first step toward a modding addiction by joining this group, once you see what your vehicle can do, it only takes a little work to start to get you there. The best first mod is a good set of All Terrain tires. My fav starter is the Falken Wildpeak AT4W LT C-Load 275/70/17 matched to the TRD Offroad-Wheels. I've got 30,000 miles on them now and they've only gone from 18/32 to 14/32 tread depth in that time so they've still got another 30,000 in them before they get to 10/32.

RE Full-Time-4WD - I've taken mine off-road quite a bit, only in situations of Wheel-Lift, Extreme Slope, Ledge Climbing would you "NEED" to lock the center diff and switch to 4LO. As soon as you do that you are going to rely A-TRAC for reliably preventing wheel slip through obstacles. Because the 4-LO gearing and disabled VSC/Traction Control, A-TRAC is an essential low speed traction device.
but on basically any surface the Full-Time-4WD is very very nice.

    Regarding Styling
    - A lot of people really hate on the chrome. At this point the chrome is more of a rarity and so I really dig having it on mine. All of us who wheel hate the low hanging plastics. It tends to to be a problem that solves itself. for a fairly small amount of money you can give yourself a higher clearance cut that follows the body contours and gives a ton of clearance. The mods to exchange the Aluminum Crash Bar and Front Facia for something like the TRD/SR5 models are fairly expensive so I went with the cheaper option that suited me.
