New 4Runner owner here, with a 2020 2WD SR5 Premium. Am I the only person driven insane by the fact that my 40 oz Stanley-like cup doesn't fit well in either cupholder? Any turn, whether slight or extreme, and my cup flops around precariously in the holder like a fish outta water. Is there some sort of insert that adapts to fit a cup smaller than the holder? I've been searching, but most adapters are because the cup holder itself is too small, which is not the issue. I've currently rednecked a piece of foam rubber stuffed into the cupholder to hold the cup steady, but of course, when I lift the cup out, the foam comes out too. My interior is all black, and because of the lack of any sort of ambient lighting, my old, blind self is fumbling around in the dark to get my cup back in place. I'm gonna have a damn wreck just trying to get a drink of water.
    HELP

You can get cup adapters on Amazon. My Hydroflask 40oz with boot fits nicely in the larger cup holder without the insert.

I bought some plastic cupholder inserts from Etsy to replace a missing one (bought used) and stop the other rubber one from clinging to whatever I put in there.

I’m assuming you’re missing those, but I can’t say if those will be a good fit for your specific thing.

Visual aid of what I’m talking about:

I need better reading glasses. I thought the title of this thread was "5th Gen Cupcake problems".

Not gonna lie. I clicked because I wanted a cupcake. Shit, I still want a cupcake!

You're probably missing the piece Bucky linked to. Once you have this piece, you'll be presented with a new problem, which is the insert remaining attached to the bottom of your cup when you lift it from the holder. There's a learning curve, and for a short while you'll find yourself removing the insert from the bottom of your cup and walking back to your 4R to return it to it's home in the cup holder. But don't worry, you'll quickly learn to "twist & lift".

According to your insurance company you’re only entitled to 50% of a cupcake. The other 50% you have to pay for yourself.

So, I've been looking at those on Amazon, etc, but thought they were more geared to fit a cup base that is too wide for the cupholder, not too small. So those linked above will work to stabilize a cup base smaller than the cup holder in the vehicle? Sorry I'm being so dumb about this...
I saw those on Etsy also, and was wondering about them...

Also, the 4runner originally came with some sort of adapter for the cupholders?
Alas, no cupcakes, but I could use one.

The insert reduces the size of the cup holder. The insert that was linked above will fix your problem.

I bought a set from that Etsy dude and they work ok, better than OEM. I don’t have a Stanley cup but Gator Aid bottles fit much better for me than the OEM ones in the Etsy ones. But a skinny bottle of water is still an issue.

Yes, when you buy the vehicle new, you get a rubber insert that makes the big gatorade bottle size cup holders hold the smaller can drink size stuff.
Your stanley, is small on the bottom and big on the top, so its naturally top heavy. Get one of the rubber adaptors and it will stay in place like you want.

Yep, 4Runner's come with a rubber insert factory that you're missing.

You could switch to 90’s or early 2000’s drink containment technology and get a Nalgene bottle. They fit quite well in the unlined cupholders.:)

I found with the OEM inserts she put in the pic of above that when I lifted my cup up the insert remained attached to the cup. The rubber held so well it came out with the cup.

    Those are it!

but you probably want to go for plastic aftermarket ones as the rubber likes to cling.

Pulling the second-row cupholder inserts (still rubber in mine) off my SO’s tumbler is a huge pain, but maybe cutting a hole in the bottom will help some.
