Since when does Toyota have only 2 models?

You really talking about original when driving a 4R.

Think you need to keep up. My posts were about all Toyota's and the islands. Turn the blinders off.
Still didn't address the question driving a 4R. Nothing is original about it.

Its ok if you have a Jeep without doors hanging your foot out while only pounding the pavement thinking you are cool. I won't judge too hard.

When I said “that’s original” it was sarcasm because everyone is driving the same vehicle.

Sure is funny to see that as a police vehicle. I can’t imagine they are going anywhere fast.

:( Is a sad day today as I’m heading to the airport going back home. But not before posting this last picture with 3 Toyotas in a row and 2 being 4Runners in Lunar Rock color!

I definitely recommend a trip to Hawaii, we loved it  and will do it again in the near future!

    Mahalo!

I chuckled seeing how this thread is nothing but photos of 2 Toyota models pounding pavement in Hawaii.

I am from Hawaii and they do pretty incredible builds there, but they can run low profile tires because there aren't any real trails in Hawaii so they are all mall crawlers. They don't have trails that they can legally go on that any stock tacoma or 4r can't do. 99% of those won't see offroad at all and the other 1% would see the equivalent of fire service roads.

Same here in the SF Bay Area. Here built and Pro 4Rs are everywhere but the nearest offroad area is in the far eastern edge of the area that no one knows is there, and for any sizeable trail system it's a 3-5 hour drive.

In my neighborhood I see some very high dollar build Tacos and 4Runners with rooftop tents, lift kits, after market bumpers always spotlessly clean commuting, at the store or local BART station. But hey, it generates jobs so who am I to argue :)

I agree! I love seeing all builds even if they don't see offroad.

Born and raised in Hawaii I have heard stories as to why Toyotas became favored more than other cars. It was after WWII the Japanese where remorseful towards the Hawaiian islands for the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
It really became apart of Hawaiian culture almost as a coming of age or a right of passage to say you own a Toyota Tacoma that was from 1990's.

Also the fact that Toyotas were just good vehicles.

Even in Mainland China where anti-Japanese feelings often runs very high, Toyota (and Japanese brands in general) was welcomed with open arms in the early 70s (while Mao was still in charge) as soon as PRC was recognized by the UN and was open-ish for business. I remember visiting there as a kid when my parents were on business, in the early 1990s, Daihatsu Charade rebadged as Tianjin Xialis were everywhere as Taxis along side VW Santanas.

First time in Maui this week. Last time in the islands was Oahu in 88' so they weren't so prevalent. It is almost staggering the number here in Maui. First 5 minutes of my drive to the Hotel, there must have been a half dozen or more. Taco owners seem to like the 6 inch lift with low profile tires and have seen several with the 4Runner Limited take off wheels with the tall lifts.
Night time Security for our NBC Golf compound even has an overland style built 4Runner.
I would estimate that 25% of the vehicles on Maui are some sort of Toyota truck or 4Runner.
