Nope… all windows open. Fume still makes it to driver. Imagine if you’re a dumb animal hovering your face inches above the pipe

I drive with my rear window down a lot and I never get exhaust fumes in the cab. I do open the sunroof too.

    Holy $(%*&$%*&% thats true.

I have worked my entire career in software (27 years and counting). At home I listen to music on vacuum tubes and I still have a round honeywell mercury switch thermostat on one heat zone.

Engine bay appearance seems like the least of the concerns to me. At least it's hidden. We know the engine will have bugs, but Toyota will figure it out eventually.
I'm expecting/hoping for a 6th gen 4Runner front fascia redesign in the first 3 years after release. That double 'stache is fugly! On top of that, the weird, shiny and bulky side fender flares; the uneven door handles that you can't unsee; the gigantic TRD Pro stamps that appear to reek of insecurity... Then we also know that folks will want to upgrade the stock 33" tires to 35s because no one wants to look like everybody else. What will that do to the newly gained fuel efficiency?
Sorry, fellas. 5th gen all the way for me.

The 5th gen front is a bit too edgy for me but the front end of the 6th is a whole other level.

It's clearly a design choice and not out of necessity since the LC250 front is much cleaner, and even base trim of those are already having trouble moving with thousands of dollars on the hood by one of our area's fastest turnover dealers.
    https://www.toyotasunnyvale.com/new-vehicles/land-cruiser/

When I got my 4runner that dealer had maybe 1 or 2 at a time and always gone by the next week.

Yeah, man. The 5th gen front is overdesigned for sure, but I'll take it over anything that makes a truck look a Transformers robot wannabe.
To your point, the Land Cruiser looks much better. The new 4Runner got bigger and the Land Cruiser got smaller. If my 2019 4R TRDP were to fail, I'll replace it with a LC. Looks modern without all the weird scars.

I’ve be in software for 56 years and make a double espresso or two every morning on a Faema Lambro that’s 65 years old. Oh, and my old Marantz still sees duty when I listen to vinyl.

Debating which body-on-frame SUV is more advanced in 2024 feels a bit like debating who has the more “modern” pair of socks.

Anyway, since both Gen5 & Gen6 still have a lot in common with a 1985 Ford Country Squire wagon (BoF rwd wagons, power rear windows..), until I’ve driven both, I’ll just cast my vote for the 4Runner with the more technologically advanced means of opening & holding up the hood.

I'm frankly surprised they didn't revert back to halogen headlamps on the SR5 after the power seat and spare tire were removed...

...^^^... Well said ... how the various system(s) really work.

FWIW, I recently bought a new 2024 to get a super dependable vehicle with decent tech, rear cam and rear warning is all I really needed.

Good point. Why not save a few more bucks. For heritage sake could have put some crank windows in there too why not.

If they knock the 4wd SR5 price down to 38k I'll rock that and lock the doors myself.

If we really wanted to get crazy we could ask for non power outside mirrors, just give us knobs to manually turn, maybe even do an AC delete also that’s worth at least $2k savings the planet guys will love us. Who needs AC if the rear window goes down.

That's a hard pass for me. Toyota increased the prices on the 2020 to 2024 4runners even though there were no huge changes , now the 2025 model is $8000 to $12000 + more. I have no interest in spending that much more and getting what I think is a lesser vehicle.

Same here. All the haters that argued I overpaid my brand new pro in 22 for $55k. Probably the best vehicle purchase ive made when I see the price of the 6th gen (even a base off road) for what is no doubt a lesser vehicle

I almost never use the AC. It only gets used when I have guests in the car, or if I'm talking on the phone.

As far as saving money by offering non-power windows, locks, mirrors, etc; I just don't see it making a significant difference. Now you're adding R&D for another window, lock, or mirror mechanism, and complicating the assembly line. It seems like it should be cheaper to make them all the same in as many ways as possible.

They have to pay for all of the recalls somehow. :notsure:

In all fairness to Toyota, my monthly grocery bill has increased about the same percent as the 2026 T4R

Everything is up for sure but a 4Runner is a much more discretionary type of purchase. Better times coming though in 2025.
