    Welcome to the forum.

Oil type is a much discussed topic with many varying opinions. For the sake of conversation try searching and reviewing some of dozens of pages of prior posts regarding oil type and change interval. Just stick to a good synthetic of your determined choice and you will be perfectly fine.

Filter in the Pic on the left is the OEM part # for my 2022 4 Runner which should still be the same for the 2024.

Used Wix the last two oil changes. I can't see any difference from the oem.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

Another thing I noticed recently is that Walmart actually carries Toyota OEM oil filters, so if you really want to avoid the dealership (at the expense of going to walmart), that's another option.

I would be a very hesitant to buy a Toyota oil filter @ Walmart not knowing if it is a knockoff one. At this point I would just go to a stealership and buy a pack of 10 or 20 filters and just not see their face for few years, or better just order them online from Toyota.

The deal in post #5 above is great. That would cover me for the next 10 years worth of oil changes...I'm lucky to put 5k miles per year on the 4R.

I personally buy from the dealer parts counter or RockAuto. I find it annoying going to the parts counter and the variable experience there but the prices that I’ve seen are solid for Toyota’s filter.

In the past I’ve even used Walmart’s el cheapo SuperTech to solid results (granted, it was on a Kia with 3-4000 mile intervals) so I wouldn’t panic if Indid that occasionally but for the 4Runner I’ve mostly just picked up OEM and most recently, a batch of standard Wix 57173(?) filters.

You may be able to find both at local auto parts stores for less (no shipping charge).

No reason not to use the OEM filter. But, I’ve used a Mobil 1 filter in the past, it was also fine. Whatever is cheap and accessible is probably gonna be acceptable, but just load up on OEM ones for 5-6$ a pop.

OEM or Wix. Can’t go wrong with either.

    Thank you,
I have gotten tired of the hassle of just buying 1 or 2 especially on a vehicle I know I’m going to keep a long time.
